looks like BD is going to opt out of his contract
he turns 30 next year and wants a contract similar to the 6 year $65 M Nash got, and he is injury prone
that being said, if he isnt there next season, the W's go from a 50 win team to 35 at best
but should they sacrifice one season and then make a splash in the Wade-Nowitzki FA market?

There is no way we can resign him, sign & trade only...wish he had played his contract year with us though, we would have seen him at his best.

Re: looks like BD is going to opt out of his contract
If he opts out, the best part of it is that he's not going to get the money he wants unless he goes to a bad team - the only teams with the cap space to give him the kind of deal he wants are Charlotte, Chicago, Memphis, Philadelphia and Seattle. Of those team, Chicago (Hinrich), Philly (Miller) and Memphis (Conley, Lowry) already have point guards.
Philly MIGHT offer Baron a big deal, thinking they could then trade Miller, but it's doubtful. Seattle is embroiled in a controvery over their future home and they will not be too keen to sign anyone until the issue is settled. That leaves Charlotte.
Essentially, only the Charlotte Hornets have the cap space to sign Baron to a deal that he wants and the need at point guard to match.
If he wants to leave a 50-win team for a team that will finish at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, I say good riddance.
One thing I can guarantee is that Mullin is not going to agree to a sign-and-trade unless it fully benefits Golden State. As there are not too many teams who will be willing to give up top players/prospects AND dish out the dough to Baron, I think that's out of the question as well.
In the end, if Baron were smart and wanted money, he'd stay around one more year.

I don't know, he was healthy for once last year and so I think his value is high right now. I also don't know if he wants to risk having Nelly sabotage him next year.
The Warriors are a mess again.

The Warriors are NOT a mess. They will re-sign Ellis and Beans and they still have Jax, Belinelli, Brandan Wright and trade bait in Al Harrington and Mikael Pietrus.
What the Warriors have is a solid young core, a solid GM who has already learned from his mistakes, and a coach who can take players and make them better as a team than they are as individuals.
Far from a mess, the Warriors are right now what the A's are in the AL - they are young, they are exciting, and they are already getting ready to take the next step.
With Baron next season, the Warriors are a playoff club. Without Baron, they are good, but they are also about $30 mil under the salary cap. After re-signing Monta and Beans, they'll lose about half that, but $15 million is a lot of jack in the NBA.
The Warriors could add a whole lot of 1-year players (Azubuike among them) and have a whole bushel of money after the 2009 season when guys like Boozer and Gooden and DWade and Elton Brand and Steve Nash will be on the market.
No, I dare say that the Warriors are in a win-win situation right now. They have Baron right where they want him - they can offer him less money over the long term or let him walk and still be in an enviable situation for years to come.

Good grief, but that's an over-the-top, wildly inaccurate comment. Nellie sabotage him? Baron's had the best years of his career under Nellie. Hardly sabotage.
And the Warriors are a mess??? NOTHING has happened yet. Baron hasn't opted out yet. If he does, Mully might yet get value for him. If, instead, Baron decides to go for the money with a crap team...then fine. If that's ultimately what he's about, then we're better off without him, assuming that winning a championship is what we're trying to do. And in any event, paying $20 million a year for a 30 year old, injury-plagued PG who hasn't exactly had an illustrious post-season career doesn't seem like a wise investment to me. Better to put our money elsewhere.

Baron won't opt out. No way any team will pay him what the Warriors will next year. The threat of him opting out is just posturing in my opinion.

I think BD likes Cali too. Dude wants to make movies and the only other market as close as Oakland to LA is, Phoenix.
Phoenix has a knack for getting guys healthy apparently their medical staff is top notch. If BD becomes available the Suns will be one of the first in line. Trading Nash is not out of the question for them, if they could get younger and find a guy that could run with Amare for 3-4 more years, and not have to develop him, I think they would strongly consider it.
