Might as well do one of these. No harm in it, right?
anyway, yeah. Car issues. Anyone have experience with buying/selling used cars? Private party stuff, not from dealers. If so, got a situation for you. Here's what I've posted in some Saturn forums, but the more opinions I get, the better.
There's a 98 Saturn SL2 I was thinking of buying. Really low miles, and Carfax shows no hidden issues.
Here's my story:
The current owner has had it about a month (wasn't strong enough for him after being used to 8-cylinders), and it passed smog the day before he bought it. 3 days later, the engine light came on, and he had it checked out by his mechanic. His first guess was that it was the sensor itself, since it had just passed smog with no trouble at all 3 days earlier. So he, as I'm told, reset the system to see if the light comes back on. Apparently it's only been driven about 30 miles or less since then. Anyway, the owner took the car to be smogged today (I was going to buy it tomorrow), and it didn't pass, because apparently the tester couldn't read the diagnostics system on it. does this sound plausible?
How many miles does it normally take for the system to start back up?
Now that it's failed a smog test, the DMV is notified of that, right? That in turn means the title can't be transferred? This has been the only snag in the transaction so far, the owner doesn't seem shady at all. He was completely surprised today when it didn't pass smog.
Any info would be greatly appreciated on what options there are.

He got the sensor in question replaced and it still wouldn't pass smog, so I called the whole thing off. It was turning into too much of a gamble.
Thanks for looking into it though.
Well, back to the drawing board...

Might as well update this thing.
Been at Peet's for officially one year now, amazing how time flies. I remember going and turning in my application the same day as that horrible Giants/A's "game" (you know, the 16-0 debacle...).
4 days later was my first day on the payroll. I was so sure I'd never be able to be a barista, and I'd just stay down at the bean counter.
*fast forward a year*
Well, a couple days ago, 3 or 4 different customers came back after I'd made their drinks, to specifically compliment me on how they were. I never expected that, but
I guess it goes to show that even I can learn how to do something right.
To top it all off, the managers specifically want me to actively have a hand in training the rookies.
Sure beats the other job I had 4 years ago...

My language too. Not just coffee though, tea is just as good. I've developed quite a dependence on our Mango Iced Tea. I don't even normally like fruit-flavored teas, but this one's not artificially flavored at all. I can't even describe how good it is.

One of my new pre-game "traditions" is to get to SF early enough to go to the Ferry Building Peets before going to the ballpark.
It's a bit of a walk, but as long as you have enough time to enjoy a stroll (and it's not freakin' RAINING, ), it's not bad at all.
