Re: The random krap and bizarre pics thread
'Bout time someone got some revenge on behalf of the U.S.
Gotta love a 61 year old man pissing off the Brits with annoyingly repetitious song playing.
Wonder if they would have complained had he blasted that annoying song that we were all subjected to day after day for so long?
("Wannabe" by the Spice Girls)
and yeah, I'll admit it.. I woulda hit it..
Back then anyway. Now they all look like grandma, and V. Beckham looks like some sort of canine version of Michael Jackson.

Man reprimanded for blasting Springsteen hit
May 20, 6:35 PM (ET)
LONDON (AP) - A judge has reprimanded a British pensioner who plagued his neighbors by repeatedly playing Bruce Springteen's hit "Born in the U.S.A." at high volume in the early hours.
John Norman, a 61-year-old, was on Tuesday given a three week anti-social behavior order, or ASBO, after residents living close to his home complained.
Prosecutors told a court in Mansfield in northern England that officials received more than 100 complaints. Neighbors said Norman blasted out the Springsteen hit on repeat night after night.
Norman's ASBO, a punishment designed for troublesome youths, bans him from playing loud music for three weeks. The court can also impose a further ban and he can be jailed if he doesn't comply.

The random krap and bizarre pics thread
I don't think there is a politician on the planet that I'd rather shoot the **** with over a beer than Bill Clinton.

Re: The random krap and bizarre pics thread
"I did the math on the Paul McCartney-Heather Mills divorce.
After 5 years of marriage, he paid her $49 million.
Assuming he banged her every night during their 5 year relationship (and being married men, we all know THAT doesn't happen), it ends up costing him
$26,849 per lay, not counting attorney's fees and court costs.
On the other hand, Elliot Spitzer's call girl Kristen charges $4,000 an
hour. Crazy, right?
But...
Had Paul McCartney employed Kristen for 5 years, he would've paid $7.3
million for an hour of sex every night for 5 years (a savings of
$41+million).
Value-added benefits are: a 22 year old hot babe, no begging, no coaxing,
never a headache, wide open menu, ability to put BOTH legs around you, no
*****ing and complaining or "to do" lists. Best of all, she leaves when you're done, and comes back the next day, ready for another round. All at 1/7th the cost, with no legal fees.
Is it just me, or is it better to rent?"

Smart bird, they taught him well
Lost parrot tells veterinarian his address
May 22, 11:36 AM (ET)
TOKYO (AP) - When Yosuke the parrot flew out of his cage and got lost, he did exactly what he had been taught - recite his name and address to a stranger willing to help.
Police rescued the African grey parrot two weeks ago from a neighbor's roof in the city of Nagareyama, near Tokyo. After spending a night at the station, he was transferred to a nearby veterinary hospital while police searched for clues, local policeman Shinjiro Uemura said.
He kept mum with the cops, but began chatting after a few days with the vet.
"I'm Mr. Yosuke Nakamura," the bird told the veterinarian, according to Uemura. The parrot also provided his full home address, down to the street number, and even entertained the hospital staff by singing songs.
"We checked the address, and what do you know, a Nakamura family really lived there. So we told them we've found Yosuke," Uemura said.
The Nakamura family told police they had been teaching the bird its name and address for about two years.
But Yosuke apparently wasn't keen on opening up to police officials.
"I tried to be friendly and talked to him, but he completely ignored me," Uemura said.

Re: The random krap and bizarre pics thread
Maybe the Giants can swing the same deal for Sabean....
....Ok, I got carried away there.
3 or 4 maple bats for Sabean is more realistic.
Calgary Vipers minor leaguer traded for 10 baseball bats
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
McALLEN, Texas - During three years in the low minors, John Odom never really made a name for himself.
That sure changed this week - he's the guy the Calgary Vipers traded for a bunch of bats. "I don't really care," he said Friday. "It'll make a better story if I make it to the big leagues."
For now, Odom is headed to the Laredo Broncos of the United League. They got him Tuesday from Calgary of the Golden Baseball League for a most unlikely price: 10 Prairie Sticks Maple Bats, double-dipped black, 34-inch, C243 style.
"They just wanted some bats, good bats - maple bats," Broncos general manager Jose Melendez said.
According to the Prairie Sticks Web site, their maple bats retail for US$69 each, discounted to $65.50 for purchases of six to 11 bats.
"It will be interesting to see what 10 bats gets us," Melendez said.
The Vipers team signed Odom about a month ago, but couldn't get the 26-year-old righty into Canada. It seems Odom had a "minor" but unspecified criminal record that wasn't revealed to immigration officials before they scanned his passport, Vipers president Peter Young said.
Odom said the charge stemmed from a fight he was in at age 17. Although he thought it had been expunged from his record, it popped up during immigration.
Odom spent hundreds of dollars driving to the Canadian border and staying at a Montana hotel while the matter was sorted out. He then drove to Laredo after the trade.
Originally from Atlanta, Odom was drafted late by the San Francisco Giants in 2003. He pitched 38 games, all in class-A, from 2004-06, and was released by the organization this spring.
Laredo intends to activate Odom on Monday and have him make his first start Wednesday.
Odom said he was supposed to be traded for Laredo's best hitter. But when that player balked at moving to Calgary, the bats entered the deal.
Laredo offered cash for Odom, but Young said that was "an insult."
The bat trade wasn't the first time Calgary came up with some creative dealmaking. The Vipers once tried to acquire a pitcher for 1,500 blue seats when they were renovating their stadium, Young said.

Re: The random krap and bizarre pics thread
okay typically thehed is not a name dropping jackass, but today he will be one. thehed first met tito ortiz on the juco wrestling circut in 1995. initial reaction: tito is an attention whore jackass. he was a good wrestler, but he always got owned by fresno city college's own, donny rider. at the same time thehed was associated with chuck lidell in slo, for a number of reasons that will not be discussed here. after tito decided he was a ufc fighter (because he couldn't pass classes at cal st bako, or beat his friend from golden west college , "noodle," for the starting spot. noodle was an ncaa all american, outstanding wrestler.) he would come up to slo to work out with chuck. chuck would own him in workouts, and those of us in the know, knew this. then it paid off for us in vegas twice.
tito is fighting tonight. he has slid to 10th ranking in his weight class, but he has been with jenna jameson for quite some time. not sure what is worse. anyways, thehed hates tito, thehed hopes he gets beat again tonight.

Re: The random krap and bizarre pics thread
**Note: sorry for the huge pic below. It just doesn't look good when reduced to being significantly smaller**
___
Thanks for the update hed. I love watching UFC.
On another note:
Good luck to teh little Phoenix tomorrow night.
Hope the brakes work and it doesn't crash and burn.
(Slowing from 21,000 km/h to 5 km/h is the plan.)
Different article link than the excerpts below
Excerpts:
NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander will finally arrive at its destination on Sunday night, ready to search for signs of habitability on the Red Planet.
In its mission to find out if there's an environment for life on Mars, Phoenix will use a 7.7-foot arm to scoop up samples of underground ice and soil on the surface.
On earth, wherever there's water there's life and so the search for life on Mars is based around a 'follow-the-water' philosophy.
"This is a mission about understanding water in all its phases," Dr. Alain Berenstain, director of Space Exploration for the Canadian Space Agency, told CTV.ca.
Phoenix, which is scheduled to land farther north on Mars than any previous rover or lander, will be the first device ever to touch water -- although it will be in its frozen form.
Once scientists understand Mars' different forms of water (solid, liquid or gas), the cycle of water, and what's in the water, they'll be better able to figure out if Mars could have been a habitable place, Berenstain said.
-----Complicated landing-------
The big task before any research can occur is making sure Phoenix lands safely after its nearly 200-million kilometre journey.
"There's a lot of trust in your little child that you've sent off to do the right thing," said Berenstain.
Phoenix is scheduled to enter the top of the Martian atmosphere at a speed of nearly 21,000 km/h.
In the ensuing seven minutes, described by NASA as "seven minutes of terror," the spacecraft will have to complete a challenging sequence of pre-programmed events to slow down before it lands.
The biggest risk comes from large rocks on the surface of Mars which could spoil the landing or prevent the solar panels from being able to open.
"Only half of the missions that have attempted to land on Mars have succeeded," said Berenstain. "This is a risky business and it's not something that's easy to do.
"The reality is that every time we land on Mars we still hold our breath."
If it lands successfully, telemetry data -- comparable to an 'I'm okay' beep -- will be heard about 15 minutes later.
Then, scientists will have to wait about an hour-and-a-half until an orbiter passes over the Phoenix and helps transmit the first set of pictures back to earth.
