World's shortest man, leggiest woman meet
Sep 16, 6:01 PM (ET)
By NANCY ZUCKERBROD
LONDON (AP) - Trafalgar Square routinely serves as a stage for mimes, jugglers and other acts, but the tourist attraction drew an exceptionally curious crowd Tuesday when the shortest man who can walk met the woman with the longest legs.
He Pingping, of China, was born with a type of dwarfism. He, 20, stands precisely 2 feet 5.37 inches tall.
The pair met to publicize the release of "Guinness World Records 2009." This year's version of the popular book is due out Wednesday.
He called Svetlana Pankratova's legs "very beautiful."
Pankratova, 36, who is Russian but lives in Spain, has legs that are nearly 52 inches long, or more than 4 feet long. Her upper body has nearly typical proportions, giving her a giraffe-like appearance.
Dressed in a bright-blue mini-dress and low-heeled pumps, Pankratova, 36, said she liked her legs, though they can complicate things. "It's hard to find clothes, especially pants," she said.
At just over 6-foot-4, Pankratova isn't the tallest woman on record. Sandy Allen, of Shelbyville, Indiana, who died recently, held that title at 7 feet, 7 inches, according to the book. The book said He is the shortest man who can walk.
The latest edition of the book lists pop star Britney Spears as the most-searched person on the Internet and the television show "Lost" as the most-downloaded show of all time.
The book has been around for half a century. About 3.5 million copies are sold each year, according to editor-in-chief Craig Glenday.

Re: The random krap and bizarre pics thread
slow news day so far..so let me ask:
How do you mistake a skunk for a cat SO MUCH SO-- that you actually start petting the thing?
Skunks don't look ANYTHING like cats.
They have long pointy faces, small beady eyes, dog-like noses, huge wide feathery tails AND VERY DISTINCTIVE AND EASILY RECOGNIZABLE STRIPES!
And if that's not enough-- they also SMELL LIKE SKUNKS.
What a ****ing dumb *****. Too bad Pepé Le Pew didn't also bite her:
Woman mistakes skunk for a cat, gets sprayed
Sep 15, 9:05 PM (ET)
MOUNT CARMEL, Pa. (AP) - A Pennsylvania woman who thought she was petting a neighbor's cat got a smelly surprise when it turned out to be a skunk. Not only did the skunk spray the woman before dawn Monday, but it ran into her Mount Carmel home.
Police spent hours at the home before leaving the scene, but there was no immediate word if they were able to remove the animal.

Re: The random krap and bizarre pics thread
We almost lost one of America's finest secret agents. Thank god they rescued him in time.
___
Stuck 'agent' tells cops of secret bomb mission
Sep 17, 5:37 PM (ET)
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - It wasn't the preferred way to enter the Knoxville Museum of Art, but Richard Anthony Smith told police he was on a mission. The 25-year-old Knoxville man called 911 from his cell phone before dawn Wednesday saying he was trapped in an air conditioning duct leading from the museum roof, Knoxville police spokesman Darrell DeBusk said.
Police and firefighters reached the roof, found a rope and cable and followed them to a vent shaft. Peering inside, they spotted Smith about 45 feet down.
"Mission failed," he told them.
Hoisted up and read his rights, Smith told police he was a "special agent from the United States Illuminati, badge number 0931" and had rappelled onto the museum from a helicopter, a police report said.
He said he was following orders to "defuse and confiscate" a Soviet-made nuclear warhead, specifically a "MERV6SS-22AN" warhead, according to the report. The bomb supposedly was hidden in a blue, plastic cow sculpture in the museum basement, he said.
However, Smith told officers his "agency" called while he was in air-vent limbo to say it made a mistake and the bomb might be in a Memphis museum instead.
Police charged Smith with aggravated robbery. He was being held on $2,000 bond at the Knox County Jail. Authorities said he did not have a lawyer.
"Fortunately he was able to reach his cell phone," DeBusk said, "or he may not have been found for quite some time.

Maybe it "pole-cat meowed" at her...
or pole-cat purred?
PS you sure the lady isn't the pole-cat?
She sounds about as smart as your average stripper.

Kinda looks like she just "hatched" him. He's even got the baby hair still pointing up after the quick ride down.

Actor/Former Mets Minor leaguer Accused Of Killing Girlfriend's Cat
"Jealous And Drunken Bully" Beat Defenseless Animal To Death, NYC Prosecutor Says
NEW YORK, Sept. 18, 2008
Norman the cat murdered
This photo shows Lisa Altobelli's orange tabby Norman. A New York City prosecutor says Altobelli's former boyfriend, baseball player-turned-actor Joseph Petcka, brutally killed the cat during a jealous rage. Petcka, who's trial began on Sept. 17, 2008, claims he killed the 7-pound feline out of self-defense. (AP PHOTO)
(CBS/AP) A trial has begun in the case of a baseball player-turned-actor accused of brutally killing a cat in a jealous rage after complaining that his ex-girlfriend cared more for the feline than she did for him.
Assistant District Attorney Leila Kermani said the cat named Norman died with broken teeth, broken ribs, a broken leg, a torn tongue, massive internal injuries including bruised lungs and a bruised liver and a chest cavity filled with blood.
"The defendant, in a fit of anger and rage, beat a defenseless animal to death," Kermani told the jury in her opening remarks Wednesday. "The defendant killed Norman simply because he was an angry, jealous and drunken bully."
Former New York Mets baseball minor leaguer Joseph Petcka, 37, is on trial on charges of aggravated cruelty to animals for killing Norman on March 27, 2007, after a night of heavy drinking. He faces up to two years in prison if convicted.
Petcka's lawyer, Charles Hochbaum, admitted his client kicked the 8-year-old tabby and "swatted him really hard" after the cat bit him, but he said his client did not mean to kill him.
"This was a tragic accident," Hochbaum said. "It was not intentional."
Hochbaum complained the district attorney's office never offered his client a plea deal. He said outside court he believes that was because of the publicity the case attracted and the urgings of cat fanciers.
Norman's owner, Lisa Altobelli, testified she had dated Petcka about six weeks before he killed her cat. She said one night they quarreled and he began drinking heavily. She said she went to bed to avoid him but he woke her around 3 a.m. by putting his knee in her ribs and complaining that Norman had attacked him.
Altobelli, a Sports Illustrated reporter, said she left the apartment after Petcka refused to calm down.
She said Petcka had complained, "You love that cat more than you love me," but she had no idea Norman would be in danger. When she returned home Norman did not meet her at the door as usual. She found his body under her bedside table.
Petcka, a pitcher briefly in the Mets' minor league system in 1992, later appeared in a paper towel commercial and had small roles in "Sex and the City" and other television shows. Hochbaum said his client had more recently worked as a bartender and waiter.
The former minor leaguer, a hulking 6-foot-3, 205 pound man rejected a plea offer from the Manhattan District Attorney's office in Dec. 2007. The deal would have allowed him to serve only three months in jail, but Petcka decided to take his chances at trial.
Before the trial began, The New York Post reported that Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Michael Obus was getting numerous phone calls letters from animal lovers dismissing Petcka's claim of self-defense, noting that it's ludicrous to believe that a 205-pound man was threatened by a 7-pound feline. Some even called the courtroom demanding his death by hanging, the Post reported.
A thread on a message board on the Internet Movie Database, where Petcka's acting credits are listed, is populated with cat lovers wishing Petcka bad luck at his trial. One poster on that board wrote "Norman was more of a man than he will ever be!"
