Transgendered Man Claims Pregnancy
BEND, Ore., March 26 (UPI) -- An Oregon man who had been a woman before undergoing a sex change claims to be expecting a child.
In an article in The Advocate, Thomas Beatie said he kept his female reproductive organs, although he had surgery to reconstruct his breasts and testosterone therapy. He said he decided to have a child because his wife is unable to conceive and stopped the testosterone.
Beatie formerly lived Hawaii. As Tracy LaGondino, he owned a T-shirt design shop in Honolulu, KITV reported.
Some of Beatie's neighbors say they believe the pregnancy is a hoax. The photograph in The Advocate showing what appears to be a visibly pregnant man is evidence to the contrary, they say.
"Quite frankly, I think it's a hoax. I saw him a few days ago and he didn't look like that," said neighbor Ron Schlieper. "He was walking down the street with who I thought was his wife, Nancy, and I don't recall seeing a belly if that was a month ago. He would have been much bigger just a few days ago."
In his article, Beatie said he plans to be his daughter's father in terms of family role, while his wife will be the mother.

Alleged Safe Thief Asks for Phone Call

CHICAGO (AP) - An alleged thief wasn't fazed when workers at a Chicago muffler shop told him a safe he wanted to rob wasn't open. He just asked them to give him a call when their boss returned with the combination.
The 18-year-old got a call. But so did Chicago police.
When Ruben Carate returned to Velasquez & Sons Mufflers For Less on Monday, plainclothes Chicago police officers shot and wounded him in the leg. Carate was charged Tuesday with attempted armed robbery and aggravated assault of a police officer, the Cook County state's attorney's office said.
"He gave us his phone number when we told him we didn't have any money. He told us to call him back when the owner came back with the money and he was going to come back and rob him," said worker Tony Diaz.
"It's pretty funny now, but it wasn't at the time," Diaz said.
A masked man entered the shop with a gun and demanded money around 8 a.m., said mechanic Jose Sida.
Employees told him they carried little cash and couldn't open the safe, so the man left two numbers to call when the owner came in, Sida said.
"No one could make this up," said police Lt. Scott Schwieger.
The man returned around noon, wearing the same mask and clothing. Officers told employees to get to the back of the shop, Sida said.
Carate was treated at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center for a gunshot wound, said Mark Payne, a spokesman for the Independent Police Review Authority. An inquiry into the shooting will take six months to complete, he said.

Missing NY Rev. Found at Ohio Strip Club

RIVERSIDE, Ohio (AP) - Police say a pastor who was reported missing from his home in western New York has been found at an Ohio strip club.
A police officer patrolling the K.C. Lounge parking lot Friday morning in the Dayton suburb of Riverside spotted out-of-state license plates on 46-year-old Craig Rhodenizer's car.
The FBI and New York authorities had been searching for Rhodenizer, who disappeared Wednesday after telling his wife he was getting his computer fixed at Best Buy. He is the pastor of a church in Lyndonville, N.Y.
Detective Matt Sturgeon said Rhodenizer was disoriented when confronted by police and said he felt "emotionally guilty."

Police say a man in Bellevue, Ohio was caught on tape having sex with a picnic table.
Bellevue Police Captain Matt Johnson says Art Price, Jr., 40, was seen on four occasions between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and noon having sex with his picnic table. What makes this a felony, Johnson says, is that it took place in close proximity to a school, which made it likely that children could have seen Price.
The neighbor -- who wishes to remain anonymous -- saw Price walk out onto his deck, stand a round metal table on its side and use the hole in the umbrella to have sex.
