Random and useless Tim Lincecum news from Baggarly.
And I thought I was bored... Wait.... I guess I am--since I re-posted it.
(But only because I thought it was funny that it got reported to begin with.)

If you already thought Tim Lincecum looked 15 years old…
By Andrew Baggarly

"You might have seen a funny line in my colleague Henry Schulman’s story the other day in which he quoted Brian Wilson. Turns out Wilson got the news of Tim Lincecum’s Cy Young award while sitting in the dentist’s chair.

Well, it’ll be Timmy’s turn to feel numb soon enough. Among the items on his to-do list this winter: Braces.

Word of advice from someone who had braces in his mid-20s: Get the clear ones, Timmy. You might have talked your way past ballpark security as a rookie, but they’ll never believe you’re a player now.

Oh, and wear your retainer. I regret I kind of let that one slide.

Other Lincecum news you can’t really use: He’s celebrating his Cy Young by getting a puppy. A French bulldog, I’m told. Feel free to leave your doggy name suggestions in the comments section."

__

My suggestion for the French bulldog's name?

Lil' melon head.
And then sit him next to Bochy in the dugout.
Big Money and Lil' money -- and Big and lil' melon head.

Harmonious.

City threatens blind woman over unpaid 1-cent bill
Nov 18, 9:19 AM (ET)

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) - A 74-year-old blind woman was shocked when her daughter found a letter from the city saying a lien would be placed on her home unless she paid an overdue water bill.

The amount? 1 cent.

Eileen Wilbur told The Sun Chronicle of Attleboro the letter sent her blood pressure soaring, and pointed out that stamps cost 42 cents.

City Collector Debora Marcoccio said the letter was among 2,000 sent out. A computer automatically prints letters for accounts with an overdue balance, and they are not reviewed by staff before being mailed, she said.

The letter warned of a lien and a $48 penalty if the overdue bill is not paid by Dec. 10. The charge was from the previous fiscal year, which ran from July 2007 to July 2008.

"My question is, how come it wasn't paid when the (original) bills went out?" Marcoccio said.

Wilbur's daughter, Rose Brederson, who discovered the bill in her mother's mail, called the situation "ridiculous." But she said her mother, who has lived in the home since 1959, would likely end up paying the penny.

Re: The random krap and bizarre pics thread

Here's the story of the one that was never caught! Y'all know that only the most interesting and bizarre stories come from Shasta County, the bad part is that they are all true. To wit:

Fantastic fish found on Battle Creek draws nationwide attention to "Salmon-zilla".

It’s not often that a fish found rotting on a north state riverbank will draw attention from as far away as Alaska, Michigan and New York.

But the fish at the heart of this tale is no ordinary fish. It’s a monstrous 85-pound dead chinook salmon that state scientists discovered decomposing on Battle Creek near Anderson. If it had been found alive, it likely would have been a state record.

“It’s been picked up by almost any newspaper that I can think of,” said Doug Killam, associate fisheries biologist in the state Department of Fish and Game’s Red Bluff office.

Along with appearances in the San Francisco Chronicle, Sacramento Bee and L.A. Times, Killam said pictures of the big fish have made it onto television on Fox News and “Live With Regis and Kelly.”

“I got a call from my family on the East Coast saying they just saw me on TV,” Killam said.

The most widely distributed photos of the salmon feature Killam straining to hold up the huge carcass and Dale Morrison, a contract worker on one of Killam’s fish survey crew, hoisting it proudly.

The fish has also been popular on Redding.com, where a day-old story about the fish on Nov. 5 beat out local and national election stories. The fish story continues to draw page views, ringing up more than 36,000 so far.

The Record Searchlight report drew e-mail inquires from anglers from Michigan and New York, as well as a fisheries scientist from Alaska — all curious about whether the big fish was for real.

When Killam went out to collect photos of the big fish on Oct. 31, the day after it had been found, he wasn’t expecting a hubbub.

“I thought it would be a cool picture to put on the wall, but I didn’t think it would generate such an interest in the nation,” Killam said.

Online, the fish has earned such nicknames as “Salmon-zilla” and “Salmonsaurus” from headline writers, and it has been a hot topic on fishing forums.

“It got a lot of play,” said Sam Kline, who posted a pair of entries about the fish on an online fishing forum for a Michigan-based fly shop’s Web site.

And the photo of the preposterously fantastic fish reeled in skepticism with naysayers saying it wasn’t a true find, but a product of electronic photo editing.

One of those skeptics was Patrick McInerney, a advertising copy editor for BBDO in New York City who is familiar with photo manipulations.

“I was definitely looking very closely at the edge of the fins,” McInerney said.

After seeing there were five photos of the fish, including one of it lying next to tape measure, McInerney became a believer.

A fly fisherman, McInerney said reports of big fish get passed around like wildfire among anglers because they love to talk about the thought of having such a monster on the end of the line.

“I don’t know if that is even possible to land,” he said.

Killam speculated alive, the fish found on Battle Creek probably weighed more than 90 pounds, potentially trumping the state record 88-pounder caught on the Sacramento River in 1979.

Along with the media and angler interest, Killam said he has gotten other calls about the salmon. They include two from artists.

One wondered if Killam still had the fish on ice so it could be slathered in paint and a print made of its massive form. The other wanted photos and measurements for the fish to make a wooden replica.

Hank George, a Redding wildlife wood sculptor, said he doesn’t have anyone requesting the piece — which at $22 per its 51 inches will fetch over $1,000 — but is sure someone will be interested.

“There’s always someone out there that would like something like that,” he said.

And what of the famous fish itself? Where is it now?

“We just let it lay there,” said Killam, who spotted the decomposing carcass on Battle Creek’s bank again Monday. “And it is slowly turning to mush. … I think next week it will be a skeleton.”

Brilliant:

Rapper gets 20 years after writing shooting song
Nov 19, 3:50 PM (ET)

DUBLIN, Ga. (AP) - He shot a man twice and felt so good about it, police said, a rapper wrote a song describing the shooting and calling out the victim by name. A judge sentenced 25-year-old Rico Todriquez Wright Monday to spend the next 20 years in prison after his victim mentioned the hip hop confession to police.

Chad Blue, 28, told police he had known Wright before the September 2006 shooting, but that the men weren't friendly. He testified companions egged Wright on as he chased and shot his victim in the thigh and groin.

Later, Blue told police he recognized Wright's voice on a CD, rapping "Chad Blue knows how I shoot."

Wright was sentenced to 20 years for two counts of aggravated assault. He will spend another 20 years on probation.

The random krap and bizarre pics thread

'Butt Bandit' Authorities said they've arrested a suspect in the rash of so-called "Butt Bandit" vandalism cases. County Attorney Eric Scott said a 35-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday morning. Formal charges have not yet been filed. Some vandal had been skipping from one building to another at night, pressing his naked buttocks, groin or both on windows.

Store owners, church workers and school janitors have had to wash lotion and petroleum jelly off the windows he selects.

Local residents found some humor in the strange brand of graffiti and had dubbed the vandal the "Butt Bandit."

Valentine Police Chief Ben McBride called it "the weirdest case I've ever seen."
