In 1971 I was 10 and my Dad was director of Emergency Services for SF and he got an award or something and I got to meet both Willies and Al Gallagher and Tito who was my favorite Giant at that time....and I got to go on the field...it was awsome....Later I played ball for Balboa High...and I had a neighbor who made the show and I used to catch him in the street in front of my house...his name was Juan Eichelberger ..played for padres and indians...**** I'm rambling and showing my age.....

one of the best things about this thread is the older players getting more than just a line in the baseball encyclopedia....

Looks like you are about 10 years older than me... and its HECKA cool to hear stuff about the giants you grew up with.....

So feel free to share your Al Gallager or Juan Eichelberger stories

I think its coooo

I have to thank the local Parks and Recreation Dept. They would load us kids up on the bus during the summer months and take us to Candlestick park. This was the mid 60's. Willie Mays always has and always will be my hero.

My dad was very active with me in sports and supported my endeavours. I played pretty much everything up till my college days. My dad coached my little league and Babe Ruth team. I WAS the "coaches son".

Life was a *****. Dad was borderline "The Great Santini". I loved him for it. It paid off in my adult life. Pops was and A's fan, my first taste of baseball were the Giants.

I was hooked. During my salad days, I would drive my piss yellow Honda civic to the Stick with a 6-pack and get a cheap ticket at the will-call window. Many a drunken Giants-Dodgers doubleheaders. Mays, Marichal, Bonds, McCovey, Fuentes.... good fun!

I was fortunate to enjoy baseball before free agency F'd everything up. Watching the "69 Miracle Mets", staying home from school to watch the playoffs. I played 3rd base thanks to Brooks Robinson.

Many good memories. emoticon

I was born into a Giants family on the east coast, my grandparents loved them, even though they called the the "Ants" They collected newspaper articles about the Giants to give to me. And my dad he was also a big time supporter of them. Since I have lived on and off in the Bay Area, developing a love for both the Giants and the A's. I currently live in Virginia, but in a couple more years I will be back, probably FOREVER! in SF.
