Giant Sellers
When was the last time the Giants acted like a seller in July/August?
Do we have to go all the way back to getting Attlee? Trading Jack?
I guess the argument COULD be made for last season with Morris, but that was more of a shoplifting excursion, not a sale.

Morris was a mercy trade. More like a get the **** outta here thing. Not exactly "selling"
Shall be ineresting what will happen in the next few weeks though. As much as I like Winn, I would love to see him go to a contending team and that The Giants bring up Nate.
Sometimes I just think that The Giants are a rudder-less ship with no one at the helm. Analogy being, that it seems there is NOOOOOO plan. Fuccken fire Sabean and Bochy now!!!

Kenny, man you hit it on the head. It's almost like this team is the Ghost Ship of Giants teams past.... wandering aimlessly on the dark, rolling seas of baseball mediocrity. No land in sight and no hope of rescue. It USED to be a mighty vessel, with all guns blazing and ready to make battle at a moments notice. Now all you hear is the creaking and groaning as it struggles to stay afloat. Rudderless.... indeed.

Wow, I almost shed a tear.
The system has definately gotten a kick in the ass as far as recruitment and money. And we'll sign our draftee's. Yeah, Posey too.
They are trying to make up for years of being dunces, with a year of logic.

Re: Giant Sellers
Just to give Sabes a little bit here...he has been under the "win now" mode up until Bonds left. He has been doing much better the last 1 1/2 years...and maybe that will continue this offseason (basically, he just has to not sign any big FAs & try & unload Winn/Roberts). Could Sabes be better at building a team than he is at winning a title once that team is built? Just a thought.

I think Sabean might be good at evaluating prospects and their tools but is lacking in the player development side, hence the yo-yo like nature of the Giants minor league system and the lack of a more natural progression for Giants prospects through the system from rookie, low-A through AAA.
Just my $.02
Just sayin'

I have thought about this a bit since last night, and I have come up with 2 "sale" trades in the last 20ish years that the Giants have pulled off...
Mitchell & Remlinger
4
Swift, Jackson & Burba
And
Ortiz
4
Moss & Valdez

The Swift, jackson and Burba trade was defintely a winner
If valdez comes back and become a dominating closer or good 3rd starter then it is win in the long term and a loss short term.
It has already been notched as a winner in Atlanta's eyes. Ortiz won 20 his first year with them, and won 15 the next year. Those are the kind of results you are looking for when you trade for a vet.
The Mitchell/Swift deal was a STEAL for the Giants.
Mitchell had a HORRIBLE year for the M's, and did not do anything until later when he strung 2 good years in a row together for Cincy.
Swift was our ace for the infamous '93 season (I can barely even mention that year without cursing Torres, Atlanta and Los Angeles) as the CY runner up. Jackson was a GREAT setup man for Shooter for 3 years.
