big tex
sorry if this has been discussed before, but is it possible the giants could make a trade for teixeira? obviously only a good idea if he signs with the giants.
i guess my real question is what makes more sense: trading for him with a package centered around madbum or alderson, or trying to sign him this offseason, thus losing our pick? what does next years draft look like anyways? any difference makers?
or is it just a stupid idea altogether, since villalona will be up in a couple years (hopefully)
just some random thinking

Re: big tex
The Giants' first round pick will be protected, but that only clinches the choice. It would be insane to trade for Teixeira, actual prospect who have already proven themselves in the low minors more valuable than draft picks.

Re: big tex
i know it wouldnt help this year, but if they signed him, he would be a nice bat to have to center around for the next few years while others develop.
im not saying the giants should trade for him, just wondering what would make more sense. i guess it would be wiser to just try and sign him.
stupid topic i guess

That doesn't mean he isn't worth signing. Rome wasn't built in a day, you can't expect the Giants to just turn things around in one offseason.

Completely agree. It's very difficult to bring in more than one premier free agent in an offseason with the salaries the way they are today.
One year you sign a guy like Tex, you then try to bring in another guy like him in the next 1 or 2 yrs. It's going to take more than 1 free agent period to get a solid lineup.
You have to start somewhere.

I agree you have to start somewhere but i'd rather look into getting a 3B to hold over until Gillespie is ready...anyone must be better than Jose "Double Play" Castillo...I mean the best we can do is a guy off the waiver wire of the Marlins?
