Lock up Lincecum now

I know he is under the team's control for a while, but it needs to get done now. I don't care if it costs them 8-10 mil a year over three years. What the hell is Sabean doing on this one? Kicking the tires?

Lincecum has said he is not willing to do a long term deal and won't do one that will take into his FA years... otherwise it would have been done by now...

Both he and his agent said this spring that they were open to a long term deal.

General Manager Brian Sabean said his staff has researched the potential parameters of a deal that would take Lincecum through his arbitration years; an industry source speculated that the structure would exceed the three-year, $20.5 million deal that World Series MVP Cole Hamels signed with the Phillies in January.

For now, Sabean called the Lincecum talks a "back-burner issue."

"back-burner issue"? emoticon fire this man today.

This is good news from opening day

I'm glad Tim changed his mind about a long term deal, get it done Giants!

I think 3 years 20.5 million is a fair deal, but why not make it 7 years 75 million, and give the kid more money now. This would not be a 28 year old Barry Zito we were signing, but someone who has a fresh arm.

Either way I think Cain is the biggest signing issue right now. He is the one we should focus on resigning.

Cain is signed through 2010 with a team option of $6.25 mill for 2011, so I don't think there is any immediate need to resign him.

i don't see any way lincecum signs for less than 12-14mm per year in a long term deal. if he does, he should fire his agent.
