However, if the Bucs want to dump payroll, I think all three players could help the Giants. Sure, none of them are great but I think they could all help the Giants lineup. I especially like the idea of Doumit and Sanchez because they have some flexibility in positions that they can play.
Everyone wants to talk about trading for Uggla, Holiday or Rollins but I just don't see any of those deals happening given Sabean constantly saying that he isn't going to give up his top prospects.
Just sayin'
Honestly, the price tag for LaRoche and Sanchez is going to be much less than Holiday's and Uggla's. Not only are they not the same players (despite Sanchez having a better offesnsive season than Uggla) but:
1. Adam LaRoche is a FA after this season and likely won't be a Type B.
2. Sanchez makes 6 million this year with a club option of 8 for next. But the club option is automatic if he reaches 635 PA, which is almost a given. That's a pretty hefty price tag.
But I also think Sanchez is highly underrated because of his poor year last season. He's the best 2nd baseman in the NL not named Utley. And despite not hitting HR's, is slugging the ball because of the number of doubles he hits. Granted he wouldn't be the difference maker like some of the more elite batters discussed, but he'd help immensely.
The problem with that scenario is that, as of now, Molina's very likely to accept arbitration.
Probably more so with SF than Pitt, given their respective places in the standings, but most teams should balk at offering a multi-year contract.
Why would he accept arbitration? To my knowledge, Molina just might be the only FA catcher of note in the off season. Also, the rumor is that there are several teams that would be interested in upgrading at catcher.
So even if the Bucs were to acquire Molina this year and he were to accept arbitration, Molina certainly would give the Bucs another trade chip in 2010 to deal for prospects.
