Lewis can't play the field, and I don't see him as a pinch hitter. He is too passive and K's too much for the power he doesn't show. I'd kick him to the curb and bring up Bowker. Use an outfield of Schierholtz/Winn/Rowand and work in Bowker in the outfield and at 1st. Loved Richie, but his time has passed...

It's amazing how many fans are ready to judge a young player who isn't clearly a star after their first 200 ABs, and that they know exactly what their ceiling is. Patience, grasshopper, patience.

Nate McLouth wasn't a star his first year, and he absolutely sucked his second year. But his team kept him on, and he's done pretty darn well ever since. I mention him because he was the guy everybody was pissed a couple of weeks ago, when Sabean didn't trade for him. He was 23 when he came up for his first "real" look (more than 40 PAs), Ishi was 24. He was 24 when he got his first real year in, Ishi is 25.

Part of "playing the kids" and "rebuilding" is (surprisingly) actually playing the kids. Letting them play long enough to evaluate them (instead of yanking them after a month or two) is part of the deal.

Oh, and Ishi is doing far better this year (even with his sucky Apr) than McLouth did on his first "real" year (over 100 games) in the majors.

Ishikawa will come around. He has not played all that bad this year. Yes he still is figuring out ML pitching, but he has hit better of late and his glove is fantastic. Let the kid play damnit. I'd much rather trade Winn, and Lewis, then bring up Bowker to platoon in the OF and 1B

I called Ishi our starting 1B in 2009 2 years ago & was told I was absurd/knew nothing/etc. Reminds me of what I was told when I told folks I did not believe there were any WMDs too.

Well to be fair, you really didn't have any basis of knowledge for the WMD claim. I mean who did?

Saddam did gas the Kurds and chemical weapons are WMDs, no?

Just didn't have teh nukes.

Well, he got the chemicals from the United States, so it wasn't a stretch to think he once had them. However, my basis for the WMDs was pretty simple. We controlled the N & S areas (remember all those no fly zones) and yet we were being told all this uranium had been brought into the country. Simply, I didn't think our military was that crappy (the inference) and the timing was more than suspect. Many had their attention on 9/11 & didn't question what was going on (what was it, like 80% support for war?), but I sure as heck did. Further, those pics Powell showed that were to show us what were weapons & proof of WMDs looked like nothing to me (and in fact, were nothing...as I recall, some were lawn furniture). Sadly, nationalism makes people see things as they are led to see them, rather than for what they are.

Further...who DIDN'T see massive corporate corruption, emptying of the till & the rich get richer the DAY GW was selected President by the Supreme Court? I think Republicans have lost their way ever since Dwight left...now there was a true American hero.

Taken from other thread since this post is directly responsive to the inquiry:

How bad do we need a bat? Well, Nate solves RF and Pablo solves 3B. But there are glaring holes at 1B, 2B, SS and LF. So take your pick.

I am willing to let Downs stick it out at 2B, as he has been solid on D and showed some poer today. We can't really do anything at SS since $9M has gone to waste for this year and next. That leaves 1B and LF.

I like Ishi but he isn't consistent enough and would rather see him come in as a late inning replacement. Winn might hit .280 or .290 but he isn't providing any power, that is expected from a corner OF spot. One of those positions needs to be upgraded if not both. Hence, the right handed bat that Sabes keeps taking about.

Holliday would be nice, but too expensive and for only 1 year. Boras will be demanding $16-$18M per even though Holliday's numbers will not be reflective of that salary demand. I don't know of any other right handed LFers or 1B out there that are game changes and could be had without MadBum and Alderson.

Furthermore, it might be better to just stand pat and wait for next year. But be prepared to not make the playoffs under this scenario.

Stand pat and hope for the playoffs this year. The Giants need to evaluate Ishikawa and give him a real shot rather than trading for a slightly + bat at 1b.
Matt Holliday is exactly what his stats say he is, a .800 OPS, 20 HR hitter. I'd rather see Schierholtz.

And I shook him by the hand
