From Teh Cal League

High Desert Explodes for 18 runs…and loses by 15.

and…

Thomas Neal is a beast, and Clayton Tanner is starting to look like a guy who could pitch in the Bigs.

Tanner needs to be moved up to AA ASAP.

I think he needs to show some dominance of A+ first. He's been good not great.

One thing I look at to get a gauge about how an organization feels about a player is if he repeates a level. So when Tanner was pitching his second year in A+ ball, I assumed he wasn't thought of as a high ceiling prospect by the Giants. But over the past two months he's pitched pretty well. Well enough to warrant a promotion to AA, in my opinion.

But I'm always screaming for promotions prematurely. I thought Neal, Posey, and Kieshnick should have been promoted weeks ago.

I really am starting to believe this organization does not realize when a player needs to be called up. They do not realize that kids nowadays start playing at really competitive levels when they are in middle school and that they mature faster as well.

Neal should be in AA no doubt about it in my mind. I feel with some seasoning in AA, he could be a valuable September call-up for us, even if we are in the playoff race. His bat cannot be ignored.

As crazy as this sounds Bumgarner should be with the SF Giants right now as well. What more could he possibly learn in AA, the guy has an ERA once again below 2.00. Porcello never sniffed a sub 2.00 ERA in the minors and look at him now.

Alderson, Tanner, Kieschnick should also all be moved up. I would much rather watch these guys at the next level and move up AA guys to AAA, while releasing vets who will never get a shot anyways.

I wonder if the Giants want to keep them out of Norwich as has been mentioned about Posey.

Neal would kill AAA, thats why I think AA may be more of a challenge for him. This guy can really hold down CF, and if Rowand keeps up the year he is having, maybe in the last year of his contract we can trade him and go with Neal.

I just don't agree with that philosophy. AA is such a big level in regards to one's development. You see guys skipping A ball all the time (elite college guys) and some who bypass AAA on their way to the bigs. But it's rare a player skips AA. Albert Pujols and Barry Bonds are truly the exception to the rule.

I like that Norwich is tough on hitters. It gives a more accurate look at what to expect from them in the bigs. It's more similar to AT&T, The Latrine and Petco as far as the way it plays.

The numbers might not be as gaudy, but that's a good thing. A .900 OPS in AA is WAY more impressive than the same in the PCL.

If he doesn't even play CF in SJ, what makes you think he could do it at the major league level?
