No Candy Maldonado in the lineup. But we do have "One paw down Pablo-- the Not-Penitentiary face Pandaman."

Courtesy of Baggs:
No new names on the sheet. Jonathan Sanchez still among the listed names in the bullpen. Bengie back in the cleanup spot, but Schierholtz moves to fifth.

CF Rowand
LF Winn
3B Sandoval
C Molina
RF Schierholtz
SS Renteria
1B Ishikawa
2B Uribe
P Lincecum

Cardinals lineup:

Call me crazy, but it'd be nice to see Jermaine Dye batting 4th in that lineup and move Bengie down to 6th or 7th. I like Winn but I'm not convinced he will turn it around this year and the way Schierholtz has been raking, Winn would be the odd man out (if an OF is acquired).

currently i rather see bowker in Winn's spot. If by the trade deadline Bowker is a lost cause then trade for Dye.

It's amazing to see that Bochy keeps putting Molina in the 4 spot despite the fact that nearly all the statistical measurements rate him as the worst position player on the team.

I'm not ecstatic about Schierholtz's plate discipline, but his speed is the deciding factor as to why I think he'd be better hitting 4th.

WARNING JACKFLASH DO NOT READ - this post criticizes Randy Winn

I agree that Winn has now had 1/2 a season and has done nothing -- pathetic output for a corner OF. A sub .800 OPS for a corner OF is not good -- Winn is under .700.

Give Bowker a shot (the guy has raked all year with plate discipline). If it doesn't work out, then make a move for a real OF.

I wouldn't call his production as "pathetic." In fact, when he's been hot over the past 3 years, his hot streak has carried the team offensively. It's becoming harder and harder to defend him though...

I still like the idea of rotating Winn and Torres when Winn faces lefties. After Lewis dropped that flyball yesterday, I pretty much renounced all my support for him in the lineup. I would be a happy fan if all I saw was some combination of Winn/Torres/Schierholtz/and Rowand for the rest of year - depending on who's pitching.

I stated in another thread that Sabeab should shop Winn for whatever he can get, and include nearly all of Winn's contract money. Give Bowker a shot, and if the right deal comes up bring in a guy like Dye.

My deal with Winn is that I (and we) have seen this act before. Last season he had a .280 AVG & .730 OPS at the end of July. He ended up with a .306 AVG & .789 OPS. He is likely to be a type A FA, thus sitting him (or trading him for bubblegum & paying his salary as at least one suggested) seems to cost the Giants even more. Winn has seemed to be pretty steady over the years and thus I am apt to give him the benefit of the doubt. I would prefer to see Nate in every day, but not at the cost of losing draft picks & sitting a guy who has put up around a .300 AVG & .780-.790 OPS the last several years. Certainly though, Boch has to figure out how to get Nate ABs.

In short, I'm more pro Nate than I am pro Winn, but the cost of dumping Winn to play Nate is just not worth it to me.

Jack Box, give me one good reason Winn would decline arb. Who would pay him more than Sabean? is there a city he'd rather play in? After this past offseason, where there just wasn't a lot of FA money going around beyond Burnett, CC, and Tiexeira, I think players will be much less inclined to risk turning down arbitration because it would likely mean making less money, especially for player like Winn whose talents are so duplicitous.

I think most sensible people would realize that offering Winn arbitration is a HUGE risk.

I posted the same thing in another thread -- The Giants would be crazy to offer Winn arbitration. He would likely take it and then the Giants would be screwed.

Winn has very little value right now and no team is going to sign him early, so forget about getting draft picks for him.

And a .696 OPS for a corner OF is pathetic. I am not going to do the research, but for RFs with the number of ABs that Winn has I would suspect that he is one of the worst.
