Among right fielders with at least 200 at bats, only Jeff Francoeur, Brian Giles, and Magglio Ordonez have a lower OPS than Winn. 19 RF's have a higher OPS. If you include left fielders, you can add Ben Francisco and Daniel Murphy, with 17 putting up a better OPS.

Mentos - The thought is that Winn can get another 3yr deal, thus he would want to sign for multiple years rather than 1 year. Further, the Giants could assure him he will be the 4th/5th OF. In any case...more to the point, I can see Winn looking for something like a 3yr/$18M (or even $15M) deal than getting around $6.75 for 1 year with the Giants. Now I know (from your post) that you do not think this is sensible logic, but it is the logic I am using.
Remember Ryan Klesko coming to the Giants (we gave up a 2nd round pick as I recall). Klesko turned down arbi with the Pads his last year there (in which he had 4 ABs). Since he made $10M that year, his arbi # would have been around $8M. The Pads seemed to have several players like this (Nomo was another one who would have been crazy to turn down arbi) over the years...which indicated to me (and the fans on the Pads scout board) that the Pads made back room deals with the players.
Either way, our debate seems to be what to do with Winn (although you ask questions of one you do not deem sensible which seems illogical), not if Nate is a better option. Bowker was OUTSTANDING for a spell last year...and then turned ice cold. Ideally though, I'd prefer Bowker go through his growing pains to see if he can turn out well, but not at the price that I see for giving up Winn. Further, I'd be surprised to see Bowker do better than Winn this year. How do we get everyone playing time? I don't know...I like em all but of course am not advocating to actually bring Winn back next year...I think we agree on this point.

I think Winn would be happy to take his one year deal with the Giants in Arb, but who knows.
