TRADE CHATTER: Giants scout Paul Turco was seen at Monday's White Sox-Indians game, possibly looking at Tribe first baseman Victor Martinez, whom the Giants are thought to admire.

I really do not understand this move.

There is no way Ishikawa should be usurped from 1st base, especially with the way his bat has been going off.

That would only leave Catcher, and replacing Molina. While Molina may not be hitting well, I think he has developed quite a relationship with the staff and replacing him could be detrimental.

I like the idea, but I just don't see Victor having a role here. I'd take him to replace Molina, maybe, but that is it.

One more thing.

Do you think Molina would be valuable in a trade? Think about it this way, if a team like Cleveland gets him and lets him walk in Free Agency next year, they are going to get a draft pick for him. Maybe 2.

Gammons said the Giants might go after Dye. It is Gammons, so take it for what it's worth.

That's the kind of thinking that leads to 80 win seasons. When you have an opportunity to add a very good bat (like Martinez) you can't be blinded by some flashes from a kid.

Either way, as BiB on the OMB pointed out, the scout was probably there to watch Jermaine Dye.

They'd have to offer him arbitration to get those picks. Unless Molina picks it up significantly, I don't know if the Indians could afford that risk.

I'd give Aldersen and Villalona to get Victor Martinez here.

He makes us legit. A Panda Martinez 3/4 makes me wet.

I'd rather offer less for Dye.

BTW I love that Schulman used "admire," as in, "from afar"

Travis Ishikawa is NOT a competent first baseman.

I said over a month ago that V-Mart was the guy the Giants should go after. Luckily the Tribe has fallen even further out of the race (worst record in the AL actually). Given the Tribes history of terrible bullpen arms, I wouldn't be surprised if the Giants could acquire V-Mart for a package of bullpen arm prospects without having to give up Alderson or MadBum.

As for what to do with V-Mart. He certainly would give the Giants much more flexibility. He could catch or play 1B (both not particularly well) and be a proven bat in the lineup.

I have mentioned before that Molina doesn't give the team any roster flexibility since all he can do is catch. Also, his trade value might be in the fact that any team acquiring him could get two draft picks for him during his walk year after offerining him arbitration. I think it is a fair bet that since he is the only catcher of note to be a free agent this off season that he won't accept arbitration and will have plenty of options of teams to sign with.

Trade Molina for another bat (outfielder?)and trade for V-Mart. Make it happen Sabean.

Just sayin'

With the emergence of Ishi, if we trade for VMart it should be for him to play catcher (unless Ishi falls off the map in the next several weeks).

I like Ishi's D and if he can hit 20 homers and hit .260 I will take it.
