Classy Republican Joe Wilson humiliates himself yet again
During Obama's speech on healthcare, he shouts out, "You lie!" when Obama said his plan would not provide care to illegal immigrants.
Ummm...has Wilson even read the plan? Factcheck.org dispelled that myth a long time ago.
The bigger problem, of course, is that our elected officials are supposed to show a certain amount of respect to the office of the presidency. If Wilson had a bone to pick with Obama, he could have done some with more dignity and decorum.
His South Carolina congressional colleague put it this way:
quote: House Majority Whip James Clyburn, a South Carolina Democrat, said the remark was the latest in a long line of political attacks by Wilson.
“Joe Wilson took our state's reputation to a new low. I thought [Gov.] Mark Sanford had taken it as low as it could go, but this is beyond the pale," Clyburn said.
"Joe is very confrontational," he added. "He held his first town hall meeting three blocks from my house at my kid's high school. Now why would he have this town hall meeting in my congressional district, three blocks from my house in my kid's high school? It's not in his district.
--- George W. Bush, when told that Idaho Sen. Larry Craig had been the latest GOPer to be caught in a sex scandal involving boys or men: "What is up with all these Republicans?"

Oh right...the President can do no wrong but God forbid anyone in Congress actually have the balls to speak out against him and THEIR the criminals. No hypocrasy there, eh?
Wilson may have shown a lack of decorum but he was just verbalizing what MANY, MANY, MANY people across this country are feeling.
Frankly, I was reminded of the end of Dr. Seuss's "Yertle the Turtle" when Mack, the little turtle at the bottom of the pile finally spoke out, "And that plain little lad got a little bit mad, and that plain little lad did a plain little thing...". Now granted, in the story, Mack burped, but the metaphor stands...Wilson made himself heard, and like or not that sound has apparently "shaken the throne of the king". I can't entirely fault him for it.
Funny how it's ok to speak out against SOME presidents, but not others? Hmmmm....

A. I'm perfectly aware it's the first time it ever happened. There's a first time for everything. That's how new ideas are born. This nation was founded on the premise of free speech. Is that only supposed to apply to certain people under certain circumstances?
B. Why must EVERYTHING suddenly become racist? Gee, I didn't see that coming the second we elected a black President. You do realize that by turning every dissenter immediately into a racist you cheapen any power the President may have had in regards to his race. This had nothing to do with race...it had everything to do with a nation of people who can no longer sit idly by. Not my fault none of the Dems spoke up when Bush was speaking. Guess they hadn't been pushed far enough yet.
C. Just because the President happened to be telling the truth on that one point doesn't make the overall policy right. How do you know Wilson was reacting to that particular point? Perhaps his "you lie" was just a general statement, about the whole bill in general? Perhaps he just wasn't happy with it and couldn't listen to the President try to polish the same rotten apple AGAIN.
Sorry, but as one of the MANY, MANY people who is not only already being screwed but stands to be screwed even more when and if this healthcare bill goes through, I can't help but share Congressman Wilson's frustration. Would I have shouted as he did if I were in his place? Probably not...but I still applaud him for having the balls to speak out. Like it or not THAT is what this country is all about. The freedom to speak up.
Had it been a Dem who shouted like that while President Bush was speaking are you two going to tell me that you wouldn't have been giving him a standing ovation?
