Joe Wilson Voted To Provide Taxpayer Money For Illegal Immigrants' Healthcare

Posted by Mehret Tesfaye | September 12th, 2009 at 12:35 pm |

On Wednesday night, Rep. Joe Wilson [R, SC-2], shouted “You lie!” at President Obama when he said that the healthcare bill would not cover illegal immigrants. “The supporters of the government takeover of healthcare and liberals who want to give healthcare to illegals are using my opposition as an excuse to distract from the critical questions being raised about this poorly conceived plan,” Wilson said the next day in a campaign fundraising video.

However, in 2003, Wilson voted to provide federal funds for illegal immigrants’ healthcare. The vote came on the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003, which contained Sec. 1011 authorizing $250,000 annually between 2003 and 2008 for government reimbursements to hospitals who provide treatment for uninsured illegal immigrants. The program has been extended through 2009 and there is currently a bipartisan bill in Congress to make it permanent.

I do understand the clear message. Republicans control the media and have no class. Democrats act with decorum on the public stage.

Oh right...Republicans are the spawn of Satan and Democrats have never done anything wrong. And I'M the one grasping at straws?! Pot, meet kettle.

And Hit...you can stand by it all you want, but there was NOTHING remotely racist about that exchange and the more you and others stick to that stance the more you cheapen anything and everything the President says and does. So please...be my guest.

And as for yelling at the boss in a meeting...no, you're right, it doesn't make a lot of sense if your goal is to keep your job. But how many of us have WANTED to yell at the boss? Most Congressmen are wealthy enough that they don't have to worry about their jobs, so they can take the risk the rest of us can't. I still say more power to him.

You two are really amazing...you claim WE'RE the ones who are blinded yet you are so quick to jump on anything you can find to prove the other side wrong and back "your man". Funny how that works.

We're not blinded by the conservative media that controls America.

And I'm sick and tired of the lies. When Obama effs up, I'm the first to call him on it. But I don't go making stuff up just to throw gasoline on the fire.

You will note that whenever I heap praise or criticism, I back it up with a source. That's Journalism 101.

So when you get frustrated while you're stuck in traffic and yell "BASTARD!" at the person in front of you who is jamming everyone else up, do you back that up with a source?

Come on...it's called losing your cool...happens to the best of us. The man just couldn't stand listening to another pretty song and dance covering up all the holes in Obama's policy, so he vented. I don't fault him for not citing chapter and verse while he did so. He's human. Even if the timing of his outburts was a little off, that doesn't excuse the fact that this healthcare policy is a lame piece of **** that will NOT do what the Democrats claim it will in terms of helping the American people who need healthcare. So he chose the wrong point to single out, the overall response was still right on the money.

Out or curiosity, what would be an acceptable healthcare policy?

Also, please note I'm not one of the people calling for Wilson's ouster nor even formal censure. He proved himself to be Joe Sixpack sitting on his living room sofa and screaming out inanities at the TV rather than conducting himself like a person with decorum and professionalism. Had his outburst had a modicum of basis in fact, it would be a genuine debate about free speech and appropriate conduct. However, HIS lie make the whole point moot and not worthy of further discussion.

I did not say the exchange was racist, I believe Wilson is among a whole host of senators who hate the idea of a black man in the White house and will do EVERYTHING they can to try to undermine Obama. These are the same idiots who sent racist emails about Obama to each other, racists songs at Christmas time (oh you forgot that, I didnt) racist cartoons and who knows what else.
These are the same idiots who shout lies like "Death Panels", "Killing Grandma" and "Paling around with terrorists". If you care to notice at these "Tea Bag" rallies there are no black people, why is that? Is it because every black person worships Obama or is it because these "rallies" are just code for "Anti Black", at least the KKK had the balls to say what they stood for.

Ok, I can see this whole debate has left the realm of reasonable.

I don't know what "rallies" you're talking...nor do I know what you mean about racist Christmas songs. Nor do I want to know.

Do I believe there are people out there not happy to have a black man in the White House? HELL YES...probably more than anyone would care to admit. But does that negate any argument thrown against the man because it's ALL "obviously" racism? HELL NO.

It's that kind of thinking that really pisses me off.

Oh and Reese...what kind of healthcare policy would be acceptable? How about one that allows ME, as a taxpaying U.S. citizen who works for herself to go to the damn doctor...of MY choice...when I'm sick without it having to put me in debt up to my ears? That's all I'm asking for. And as of yet, I haven't heard a damn thing proposed on EITHER side that covers folks like me.

The current proposal would FORCE me to pay for health insurance I can't afford...or include it in my taxes if they decide to go that route. Either way, I'm royally screwed. And right now I'm living on spit and a prayer HOPING I don't get seriously ill because I have no way of paying for it. I'd just like SOME kind of feasible solution...that's all! I have yet to hear one.
