Re: Classy Republican Joe Wilson humiliates himself yet again
"Whereas the conduct of the Representative from South Carolina was a breach of decorum and degraded the proceedings of the joint session, to the discredit of the House: Now, therefore, be it resolved that the House of Representatives disapproves of the behavior of the Representative from South Carolina, Mr. Wilson, during the joint session of Congress held on Sept. 9, 2009," says a text of the resolution posted on the legislative Web site of House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Maryland.
Before debate on the measure began, one Democrat said the disrespect shown Obama by Wilson never would have happened to a white president.
"It only could have happened when this country elected a president of color," said Rep. Hank Johnson of Georgia. Another said the heckling of the president in the House was unprecedented, and the chamber needed to enforce discipline in order to maintain civility

Re: Classy Republican Joe Wilson humiliates himself yet again
When a former Pres. has your back RUN HIT RUN..
(CNN) -- Former President Jimmy Carter said Tuesday that racial politics played a role in South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst during President Obama's speech to Congress last week and in some of the opposition the president has faced since taking office.
Former President Carter tells NBC Nightly News that racism has surfaced in opposition to President Obama.
Former President Carter tells NBC Nightly News that racism has surfaced in opposition to President Obama.
"I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he's African-American," Carter told NBC News. "I live in the South, and I've seen the South come a long way, and I've seen the rest of the country that shares the South's attitude toward minority groups at that time, particularly African-Americans."
"That racism inclination still exists, and I think it's bubbled up to the surface because of belief among many white people -- not just in the South but around the country -- that African-Americans are not qualified to lead this great country. It's an abominable circumstance, and it grieves me and concerns me very deeply," Carter said.
Carter made similar remarks at an event at his presidential center in Atlanta, Georgia, The Associated Press reported Tuesday, pointing to some protesters who have compared Obama to a Nazi. "Those kind of things are not just casual outcomes of a sincere debate on whether we should have a national program on health care," the former president said at the Carter Center, according to AP. "It's deeper than that."
He grouped Wilson's shout of "You lie!" during Obama's speech in that category, according to AP. "I think it's based on racism. There is an inherent feeling among many in this country that an African-American should not be president," he said.
"The president is not only the head of government, he is the head of state. And no matter who he is or how much we disagree with his policies, the president should be treated with respect.

Classy Republican Joe Wilson humiliates himself yet again
Shame on Jimmy Carter for doing exactly what I was talking about...denegrating the ACTUAL argument here by brushing it under the "racism" umbrella. That does both Congressman Wilson AND President Obama a disservice.
The more you cry "racism" the weaker the charge becomes, period. You want to prove a black man can do the job then LET HIM DO IT and stop asserting that every objection to his policies is necessarily racism.
Sorry, Hit, but Jimmy Carter saying it doesn't make it so. It's still a stretch.
And Reese...I'd have no problem with extending Medicare but to my knowledge that has never been suggested, or at least not seriously suggested. What IS being suggested is government run health care that is far more restrictive and less affordable than Medicare...that's my problem with it.

It works, but like everything else the government puts its hand to, it is flawed and I'm sure that even if they did extend it, they'd find some way to screw it up. Still, as one of those desperately in need of insurance of some kind, I wouldn't be adverse to their trying it.
