Classy Republican Joe Wilson humiliates himself yet again
I haven't seen anything proposed that would give me an affordable option. Plus, all of the proposals thus far have included REQUIRING everyone to have coverage, whether they can afford it or not. I'm sorry, but that scares the crap out me.
And Reese...my current options are limited. The big companies like Blue Cross/Blue Shield are absolutely prohibitive. I used to have BC/BS and I was paying over $700 a month for it at the time I finally had to cut loose.
I researched everything that was available and found nothing that was under $500 a month. That translates to somewher between $100 and $150 a week, which is just not feasible.
And since I live in NJ, I'm doubly screwed because I don't qualify for Medicare through the state.
So my options are to pray HARD that I don't ever get seriously ill!

Um no...I can't afford $5200 a year. I need it to be less than that. More along the lines of the amount folks pay through their employer, but because I work for myself I end up having to pay at least twice as much. It may not seem fair to want the same coverage as folks who work for outside employers but at the same time I have more overhead than most since I work for myself and have to cover all my expenses for everything. I just want something that's fair...something that takes my situation into consideration...and up to now the government, on BOTH sides of the aisle, hasn't given folks like me a second thought.

The insurer (government, private company, cooperative, whomever) would indeed...but CL says $100 per month is too much. What if we had truly socialized medicine where it was all free, no claim forms, no deductibles, no reimbursements...ah, the right wing would go nuts on that. I wonder, however, how much money would be saved on the costs eliminated with that kind of system.

Believe me, I'd have no problem with truly socialized medicine. The system they currently have in Canada seems to work really well. I just want to be able to go to the doctor without it bleeding me dry.
And Hit, the "private option" is STILL not affordable for all of us who have to foot ALL of our own health insurance costs...why is that so hard for YOU to understand?
Ditto Reese...I hear what you're saying but I have no employer to "pick up the rest", meaning I have to pick it ALL up, MYSELF. I guess you just don't get the full impact of that until you've been in that situation yourself...consider yourselves fortunate that you've always had an employer to pick up the majority of the cost.
One thing this discussion is making me realize is why the government doesn't seem to get the concept of folks working for themselves and paying for their own insurance...if you guys can't get it, why should I expect them to? Sigh.
