Maybe "God" was more interested in the outcome of Dancing With the Stars or American Idol than wiping out pestilence?

I would think "GOD" wouldnt need to experiment. "He" would just blink his eyes twice and crinkle his nose and .... ooops, wrong imaginary character.

Why is it a nice point? Though out history entire civilizations have been wiped off the face of the Earth, why did God step in then? The Earth has seen its share of global disasters, again no hand of God to stop it, so why is it now unimaginable that the Earth would be destroyed in some way? Because religion comforts you into thinking it will always be alright..

Um ok, First off am I losing my mind or wasn't this on the Tiki bar and if so why was it moved?

Any hoo... who says God has anythign to do with it. I mean I think it's a planet that evolved and grew with no help from a 'higher' power. So if it emplodes... so be it.

It was in the Tiki Bar, but it was starting to get more religious, debate, political so I figured that I'd test my moderation abilities and see if I could figure out how to move it...

but realistically, there is no scientific reason why it should just emplode anytime in the near future...most of our atmospheric conditions are based on the sun and the magnetic poles, and the sun still has a pretty long life expectancy...

Re: Mayans insist 2012 isn't the end...

The Sun is abut 4.5 billion years old now. It is about 300 degrees hotter and abput 6% greater in radius than when it was first born. It will continue to increase,in temperature, luminosity and radius at about the same rate for about another 5 billion years. At that point the luminosity will be twice its present value and and will be 40% larger in radius. At this point there will be no more hydrogen in the core, forcing energy tot ake place in whatis called a hydrigen burning shell. The core wil starts to contract as the outer layes expand. Over the next 1.5 billion years the surface should enlarge to about 3.3 times its present size while the surface cools to 4,300 degrees Kelvin. Next the Sun will rapidly swell and become a red giant star. Within the next 250 million years it will expand to 100 times its present size and 500 times more luminous. When the core temparture reaches 100,000,000 degrees Kelvin, all the rest of the helium will fuse into carbon in one big bang, causing one third of the solar envelope to be thrown out into space. After this the Sun will become brighter and the outer layers will be blown out into space in the form of a a dense solar wind known as a planetary nebula. At that point all that will be left is a white dwarf.

Re: Mayans insist 2012 isn't the end...

The future of the planet is closely tied to that of the Sun. As a result of the steady accumulation of helium at the Sun's core, the star's total luminosity will slowly increase. The luminosity of the Sun will grow by 10% over the next 1.1 Gyr (1.1 billion years) and by 40% over the next 3.5 Gyr.[40] Climate models indicate that the rise in radiation reaching the Earth is likely to have dire consequences, including the possible loss of the planet's oceans.[41]
The Earth's increasing surface temperature will accelerate the inorganic CO2 cycle, reducing its concentration to lethal levels for plants (10 ppm for C4 photosynthesis) in 900 million years. The lack of vegetation will result in the loss of oxygen in the atmosphere, so animal life will become extinct within several million more years.[42] After another billion years all surface water will have disappeared[14] and the mean global temperature will reach 70 °C[42](158 °F). The Earth is expected to be effectively habitable for about another 500 million years,[43] although this may be extended up to 2.3 billion years if the nitrogen is removed from the atmosphere.[44] Even if the Sun were eternal and stable, the continued internal cooling of the Earth would result in a loss of much of its CO2 due to reduced volcanism,[45] and 35% of the water in the oceans would descend to the mantle due to reduced steam venting from mid-ocean ridges.[46]

Im confused
VT, you brought God into the debate but then use science to ... uh..well, Im lost now bud emoticon Do you think God would not allow it or not? Im thinking if the Earth has 500 million years left the Mets will win ONE more WS..right?

Secondly, the Mayans never said the Earth would implode, they said it was the end of a phase or something, and now the leading Mayan dude says its all nonsense anyway, its western misunderstandings of their ****..

im with Bec, steal all the kegs and lets party like its 1999, hmmm, that was a pretty good party, anyone want details on who I ..
