The malpractice thing has been the big issue for decades now. That first started when my uncle was still practicing, which was at least 30 years ago.
At any rate, the scary part is that while the cost of malpractice insurance has skyrocketed, the quality of medical care has drastically deteriorated. Why not hold doctor's to a little higher standard while we're at it? If they don't want to pay so much in malpractice suits, then why not do their jobs right in the first place? There's a concept.

No, that's true...I agree there. I don't have a problem with a doctor exercising his/her professional judgement. My own doctor is loathe to do too much testing. But there's a difference between that and doctors making significant mistakes in care/treatment. Seems you hear a lot more of those kinds of nightmare stories these days. If doctor's were held to a little higher standard, perhaps those kind of incidences would go down and thus malpractice insurance rates could as well?

I'm not sure I agree on that one...I think the quality of healthcare has drastically declined in the last decade or so. I don't deny that incidences of lawsuits - whether warranted or not - have risen, but I don't think health care is where it should be quality wise given the advance state of this country. Just my feeling.
