"One nation, under God, indivisible" but not at Home Depot

Man fired for wearing said pin

Personally, I find Home Depot more repugnant than Walmart, but in this case they are absolutely right. It's not an issue of religion or freedom of speech. They have a clear policy that the only pins or badges to be worn must be issued by the company. If the man wore a "Let's Go Mets" pin they would have asked him to remove it, too.

Of course, the fact that it is quasi religious and quasi political makes people think they have an agenda. They do -- it's called making money. Their research says everyone should dress alike.

It worked for the Nazis, didn't it? Wait, nevermind emoticon

Still, I think Home Depot is right. You don't like the dress code, then quit.

Home Depot made it perfectly clear that their action had nothing to do with his religious beliefs and everything to do with their clearly stated dress code. In this case, they are well within their rights.

My only question is why it took them so long to take action. He was wearing the pin for over a year and they only acted now? They had the right to enforce their dress code...why not do it sooner?

Some one probably complained...had an issue with the pin...

I agree that someone complained, the fact he started bringing in a bible probably means he was pushing his beliefs on others.

Home Depot is right, if an American wore a pin saying "Praise Allah" or something the **** would hit the fan.

Nah, "Praise Allah" would be buttressed by the ACLU

Um...first off, if they didn't have an issue with it before someone complained then they can't suddenly decide to enforce the dress code now...you can't have it both ways.

Second...since when does bringing a Bible with him to read during his lunch hour consititute "pushing" his beliefs on anyone else? Last time I looked, any of us was perfectly free to read the Bible whenever we wanted. Man, the fear and loathing of religion in this world never ceases to amaze me...you'd think anyone who actually holds religious beliefs was contagious or something. I didn't see any mention of him preaching to anyone else, but let's just jump to conclusions why don't we?

Why is it so hard to make the "Leap" that once he brought in a bible to work someone complained? Is it so far fetched to connect the dots that he may have a few screws lose? In this economy who in their right mind would lose a job over a pin? This ISNT about being religious, its about a guy who probably is a nut job. But dont let defending God get in the way of good old fashioned detective work emoticon

I am in the camp that they probably didn't notice nor care about the pin until someone complained, but rules are rules. If he wanted to abide by them, he'd remove the pin. If not, he was free to go work at Lowe's.
