My favorite! Bec gave me the Wolfman collection for my birthday but I haven't gotten a chance to crack it open yet. I'll probably do that this weekend...can't wait!

Its a great collection catcher, and The Wolf Man seems to get better everytime I watch it. Makes me wish movies could still be made like that now instead of the computer generated, no acting or plot, crap we get now lol

Ok, I took advantage of a quiet Saturday and watched three classic movies.
Started out with two of the four movies in the Wolfman collection...The Wolfman and Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman. I was reminded just why I love the Wolfman so much. Lon Chaney was just brilliant at portraying the struggle of a good man to fight back the monster within. I LOVE how movies used to use subtlety to engage the viewer then. IMO, you don't need all the blood and gore for it to be really frightening.
Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman was a little disappointing. Started out being a great follow-up to the original Wolfman, but about halfway through it just seemed like the filmmaker gave up and it became somewhat schlocky. And much as I love Bela Lugosi, he was nowhere near as good as the Frankenstein monster as Karloff was.
I capped off my evening with the final movie from the Gene Kelly collection, An American in Paris. Again, I was reminded just why I love this movie so much. Gershwin's music is amazing, and what can you say about Gene Kelly? I could watch that man dance all night...sigh!

Yesterday, I watched the remaining two movies in the Wolfman collection...She-Wolf of London and Werewolf of London.
She-Wolf of London was GREAT. More of a murder mystery/suspense film than an actual horror film. A little stilted in the acting, but overall I loved it.
Werewolf of London surprised me. Since it was the oldest of the movies in the collection, I figured it would probably be the weakest, but it was actually quite well done. The makeup wasn't quite on the level of The Wolfman, but Henry Hull did such a good job acting the part that that really didn't matter.
I also watched a great documentary about the making of The Wolfman and the other early werewolf movies. Great stuff!
One interesting trivia point...I didn't realize until watching the documentary that Lon Chaney, Jr. was billed that way by the studio, to take advantage of his famous father's reputation, but that wasn't his given name. He was actually Creighton Chaney. You learn something new every day!

Last movie you watched?
Yep catcher, only way Lon Chaney Jr. got jobs lol, I mean he was a solid actor, but if it wasnt for his dad being the man with the thousand faces he wouldnt have never gotten the roles he got.

True enough, Wes. He really got typecast in the big, dumb lug type of roles after breaking in as Lenny in Of Mice and Men. It's too bad, because he really was a good actor.
