Re: The great NBC experiment

Things are so brutal out there for The Jay Leno Show that even the First Lady for it may not be able to work a miracle — and they just got a little worse. While Leno is routinely beaten in the ratings by 10pm shows on the other big networks, it fell behind another scripted drama on Tuesday, and this one was on cable.

In the all-important 18-49 demographic, Leno was crushed by FX’s Sons of Anarchy, which drew 3.7 million viewers and a 2.05 rating to Leno’s 1.8. Somewhere, the cast and crew of the potentially cable-bound Southland are no doubt enjoying a delicious, steaming bowl of schadenfreude.

Leno also hit its Monday low this week, begging the question: Can the series expect to enjoy any sort of ratings turnaround, or will NBC stick with Leno until the summer, when it may finally have an advantage against repeats on the other broadcast networks? It may be time to break out the big guns, Jay. Place a call to Meredith Baxter Birney and start working out the terms of her debasement.

CL was right on this one it seems, since that first week it has gone downhill faster than a FA signing by the Mets. That JMZ feature makes me want to smash my TV.
Looks like the great experiment is going up in smoke..

I'm taking no joy in saying I told you so...I like Jay...but really, the production quality of his show has been TERRIBLE. They are trying so hard for laughs it's pathetic. You want to stand up agains the regular 10 o'clock juggernauts you have to do a lot better than that.

The Death Watch is on, but now the question is does Jay reclaim his old spot and bump the rest of them back to late late night or does he say screw it and drive his cars forever?

Well I'd prefer him over Conan, but I don't really care either way. Guess it comes down to whether Jay feels like he wants to keep going.

Conan is losing to Letterman, maybe partly because of his scandal, but if Im NBC I want jay back, he won the slot.. local news after his show are falling like 2009 Mets.. what a disaster!

Yep...like I said, I think it comes down to Jay himself. If he doesn't feel like continuing in late night, I doubt NBC will be able to make him do it. Then again, money usually talks.

NBC wonders why they are losing market share...10 years ago, who woulda thought that FOX would be beating both ABC and NBC...but NBC doesn't seem to give a **** anymore about building viewers, they just want to slash and go with safe things...both ABC and NBC also give shows next to no time to build an audience...
