The gate of Church of Virgin Mary
A view from gate of Churc of Virgin Mary. The church of the Virgin Mary probably dates from the 3rd century DD. This churc in Diyarbakir. Diyarbakir is a big tower in southeast of Turkey. It should not be missed as the church is still in use by the remaining Syriac Jacobite Christian Community, and services are conducted in Aramiac the language of Jesus. The church has been many times restored and features of interest include the Byzantine altar and some interesting ikons. Only about 15 families still attend the services. This church belongs to the Ortodox Syriacs.
