Season Five - Episode 5 - Fallen Idol
Description:
Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) decide to start hunting together again and their first case leads them to a small town whose inhabitants are being killed by famous dead icons like Abraham Lincoln and James Dean's car.
However, after two teenage girls come forward and claim their friend was kidnapped by Paris Hilton (in a cameo role as herself), the brothers aren't sure what they are hunting anymore.
Jim Conway directed the episode written by Julie Siege.
I don't have a YouTube clip yet but I will soon for now you can see a preview by clicking here:

Re: Season Five - Episode 5 - Fallen Idol
The clip they showed at the end of last night's episode looked, er, weird! Sam being attached by Ghandi? Um...ok.

Ouch...I see they're still finding their way. But at least they're together...that's a step in the right direction.

Well that's to be expected. It's not like they could wave a magic wand and make everything hunky dory. It's going to take time to rebuild, but at least they're going in the right direction.

He is, but he's coming around. I think last week's episode really woke him up, but you have to remember...he still hasn't forgiven HIMSELF yet, so he's carrying around all his own baggage and projecting it onto Sam, which isn't fair to Sam but is understandable.

Yep...they're both still working on forgiving themselves, which they have to do before they can completely forgive each other.

Funny, moonie, when I saw that one all I could think of was how cold he's gotten this season...I miss the old Dean, sigh. He still has an amazing face, though!

Re: Season Five - Episode 5 - Fallen Idol
Ok, better then I was expecting, still not a 'wow' episode by any means. It had some great parts to it though. Dean being a complete Ass to Sam for one. They still have a lot of work to do repairing the damage. But it seemed at the end they had found a way to start.
Loved Sam's comment to Dean "Dude, you just got wailed on by Paris Hilton!"

Re: Season Five - Episode 5 - Fallen Idol
A complete ass? I'd say that's a little exaggeration, but that's just me. I have to admit, though, that for a few seconds there I thought they were going to split them up AGAIN. I was getting ready to kill Kripke. Thank GOD they shifted gears!
The stuff with the famous folks was a little over the top...I think the writers got a little carried away...but there were some classic lines. I was laughing out loud a few times.
Dean's reaction to "Little Bastard" was priceless! And the whole Ghandi "fruitarian" exchange...I was in stitches!! How they managed that with straight faces is beyond me!
And yeah, the Paris Hilton line was a classic too! Nice to see some old Sam and Dean exchanges there.
And I loved the ending...so glad to FINALLY here Dean come clean about breaking the first seal and hear them letting each other off the hook. Now if only they'd let themselves off the hook...still working on that. And I was glad to hear Sam stating his case for being allowed to grow up...good for him. And good for Dean for hearing it. I think Dean realized he was acting a little too much like Dad in the way he was treating Sam so that was an eye opener for him. At any rate, another step in the right direction - so all in all I'm happy.

Yes a complete Ass. He tells Bobby 'Well it's the Apocolypse and we know who started that." Then he just blows Sam off when Sam tells him he heard him say it. And ordering Sam around like he was his personal servant.. Yeah, I think Ass fits.

He's a big brother...they always act like that!
The important thing is he came around.
I loved the final scene.

Hey, he was being a jerk, no doubt, I've never denied that. I was actually surprised with the whole phone call to Bobby thing...that's when I was afraid they were going to back track...but I was glad he turned himself around at the end.
He has his moments, but he's a good guy at heart. Just like Sam. That's why we love them both.

That whole thing was weird, frankly. I think they were almost trying TOO hard to point out the whole "he still has trust issues with Sam" idea. I didn't think that was necessary.
Then again, Sam had spent an awful lot of time sneaking around making phone calls to Ruby and sneaking off with her, so now he knows how it feels. A little taste of his own medicine.
I still think they need Bobby to knock their heads together!

Lol leave it to Sue to rationalize. Even when it's nothing similar. Dean was dissing his brother on the phone. And when Sam called him on it he just shrugged. I don't think they are trying too hard to show Dean has issues. It's a major part of the season, and if Sam hadn't heard the phone call, he wouldn't have confronted Dean later about needing to be treated as an equal. I thought it was key to the entire episode.

Good point about Sam confronting Dean...actually I thought that part was really interesting. Brought us all the way back to Asylum in Season One when Sam first started hinting that he had issues with the way Dean treated him, yet he never said it right out. I'm glad he finally verbalized that.
One thing about the phone call, though...and this isn't just my personal bias...remember, Dean broke the first seal and he knows it, so when he said to Bobby "we all know who started it", he could've been talking about himself. I don't think he was at the time, but I think after Sam confronted him, he realized how it sounded and that he was just as much to blame, which is why he said what he did to Sam about breaking the first seal. Could be reading that in, but it's possible.
Either way, the phone call was another waking up point, it got Dean thinking and moving in the right direction, which was good.
