My review of Pelican's "The Fire in our Throats Will Beckon The Thaw"

Human Beings are capable of 5 senses: taste, touch, smell, sight and hearing. With each of these one can experience fantastic and wonderful things. With our eyes we can see a beautiful autumn sunset, while feeling a gentle breeze bring in the aroma of the fall leaves. Pelican's second full length album "The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw” is similar to that of the scene described, but this is reserved solely for the ears. This Chicago based "Instru-metal" band has created an album that’s builds on its already stellar predecessor on so many levels. Completely lacking vocals, Pelican invites the listener to focus completely on tings so often missed, so intricate and so integral to creating a sonic experience not often found in music today. The dual guitar work and the accompanied bass and drums, work together like a couple that has been dancing in perfect harmonies for years, twirling in and out creating beauty through complex movements and precise execution. Clocking in at over an hour, of completely voiceless instrumental meanderings, one would think that this would be a completely uninteresting and difficult album to sit through. That couldn't be more wrong. Each song, about five to eleven minutes is full of unique and beautiful musical passages that you can become completely immersed in, taking in every sound, every delay ridden note, every seemingly suffocating heavy riff and accepting it for what it is, Music that is played with a talent and a passion so lacking in an Industry full of faceless clones. So before you run out to the store to pick up the latest screamo or metal-core release, check these guys out. You might like what they have to say, or not say.

10/10

Shut up fatty, if it wasn't for Mike, you wouldn't be name dropping like that.

I read your review on myspace.

nicely done. gotta watch for those typos, though. i'd type it in open office to start with, that why you get spell/grammer checked, then pass it on to where ever.

That was nice man.Im from the UK,a lowly 'city' called derby.its alrite tho cos i can get to the bigger cities to see rockin bands such as the mighty pelican.im studyin music at uni and we had to review our top 5 albums, that really got me into thinkin more about describin albums and how they make us feel.im soon to be setting up a reviewing kinda deal here in my little city, cos there's some good music happenin,it just needs exposure!you keep up with the writing man,but do watch them spelling errors, takes away the clarity of your very nice work.

take it easy fellas
