Tips for a sprained ankle
Hey guys,
I sprained my ankle in the last period against North Carolina. Pete advises me to rest it as much as possible. Anyone have any more tips or advice.
Nick P
P.S. After the game vs NC, I will work harder to get in better shape and be an asset to the team. You guys all played with a lot of heart. It made a big impression.
P.S.S. Danny — I saw your Phoenixville shirt twice along Front street this week. Both people had the blue tee.

Re: Tips for a sprained ankle
If you rolled it - which is typically how you sprain an ankle playing footy - you probably tore (to some degree) the ligaments that support the ankle. At least for the next couple of months, I would recommend you wear an ankle support at training and while playing. Even after the swelling goes away the ligaments will be weaker and it will be more than likely you will re-sprain it. Ankle sprains can take a long time for the ligaments to get their full strength back. You can get a good support at somehere like CVS. Go for the one that has side supports and laces up. It will support your ankle but still allow enough movement to run and kick.

Re: Tips for a sprained ankle
like mike said RICE...and whoever the hell stinkyfinger is (haha) good advice there... also if it persists don't be shy about getting some pictures taken of it, like MRI, XRAY, yadah yadah yadah.... other than that, self medicate, and only push yourself to what you feel you can do, don't over-exert yourself...

Nick,
I might still have a brace in my car. Remind me at practice.

Re: Tips for a sprained ankle
I have a tampon, hehe
Ibuprofen or Naproxen will help the swelling which in turn speeds the healing of the tissue, make sure you keep it elevated as much as possible and rotate it clockwise/counterclockiwise a few times each day so it doesn't tighten as it heals.
