What did you do today to get better?
Guys,
Pat and I were talking saturday after the game and thought of an idea to keep each other motivated througout the final stretch of the season.
From now until the end of the season, post on the forum whatever you did to improve your fitness. If you went for a jog, post your mileage, time, pace etc. If you lifted weights, improved your diet, let us know. We all have busy lives but every little but helps even if its just pushups and crunches in the morning.
The point of this is to see what others are doing to get better, each of us should have some kind of competitive urge to not only to match that but also raise the bar.
To start it off, I ran 3 miles today 8:55 pace. I have cut soda completely out of my diet for the last 2 weeks and plan to continue that up until nationals. I also cut my meal portions down drastically, losing about 5lbs in the last 2 weeks.
So lets hear it, update this thread as often as you can. Lets push each other to a national title!

I also cut soda completely out, as well as vastly impoved my diet over the last couple months. Keepig the beer drinking at a more reasonable level and getting more sleep to help keep focused.
Did 50 pushups in 2 sets of 25 yesterday and went for a hike in the wissahikon for approx 2 miles with as much incline/decline routes as possible. Finally back to 100% today after Saturday's game so planning for more pushups and a 2 mile run.
Also been taking full advantage of the ESPN360 coverage and watching as many games as possible, I've already learned a lot about gameplay just from watching

Re: What did you do today to get better?
First, I want to apologize for my pitiful showing in the game on Saturday. I've had to focus a lot of my time on work over the last few weeks and my training has been sorely lacking...and it showed on the pitch.
Second, I'm going to make a change and force myself to get back to devoting time to training...I will be going for a 30-45minute run today and will throw in some sprints up the art museum steps and pushups/situps...

Great start guys!
Aaron, you have no reason to apologize. Work is without a doubt more important. I am sure all of us can point to something that we did or didnt do that contributed to the final result.
During my lunch break I ran 2 miles and did 3 sets each of pushups, crunches, dips and pullups.
I will shoot for a 4-5 mile jog this weekend.

I recommended everyone get a copy of P90X and challenge them selves to get super fit. It really works. Last year I couldn't run 4 quarters. Now I can...
Do it!!!

Re: What did you do today to get better?
Got 2 sets of pushups in and a 3 mile run today. I need to invest in a pullup bar.

Re: What did you do today to get better?
This thread is a great idea, really a good motivator I'd say.
I've been doing boxing training about 1.5 hours usually 3 X/week. I don't think it helps with endurance much though, maybe a bit. Do 2 rounds of rope jumping which is quite a good aerobic, and usually 3 sets each of 15 - 20 pushups and 30-40 situps. but I think to get beyond the 15-20 plateau I have to do pushups every day.
I've also jsut got P90X and working up the courage to get started - tomorrow! (I've looked at the videos and it looks demanding).
Looks like at this stage (from talk thursday night), just doing plyometrix once a week and/or cardio twice (or thrice?) a week would be very beneficial for this season if the whole daily program is too much of a commitment right now.

Re: What did you do today to get better?
Good work to everyone who has posted!
Saturday I spent 4 hours removing a few hundred lbs of excess filler (concrete, bricks, dirt, etc.) from my back yard to a recycling center. Sounds simple except it all has to be carried piece by piece through my house a few at a time - no wheel barrows. Basically I was Jon L. for a half day - sans most of the body hair.
On Sunday I went for a 30+mile ride on my mountain bike from home to Bells Mill via Kelly Drive and Forbidden Drive in Wiss Creek. Kept it in a low gear to keep my legs pumping.
I also built a small brick flower garden on Sunday.
Since May 30 I have been cutting back on sugar and carbs. Adding more steady exercise and watching those 2 things, I have lost 19 lbs depending on the day and the scale. As of Thursday I was 238, down from 257 in late May. My plan is to see how far this approach will take me and look to tweak the exercise/diet to get to at least 225.
Good luck and keep working hard.

Re: What did you do today to get better?
Saturday I ran 4 miles, about 10:30 Min/mile, a slow pace but first time I ran 4 miles in a while.
Sunday I played touch football for 2 hours which turned out to be a very good workout, my body is very sore and achey today.
