Re: What did you do today to get better?
Jeez that is a fair bit - provides some more motivation for me - getting ready for my first P90X session today.
but building a small flower garden?
Does that mean Barrish playing with the cat counts as a work-out too??

Re: What did you do today to get better?
You're a funny man, Madigan.
I spent an hour today at Clark Park pretty much running back and forth and practicing my kicks on the run, my follow-ups, and my pick ups on the run. It's a pretty decent workout, and I think it's important to think on your feet (no pun intended) when running that fast.
I also spent some time on my set shots, something that I had issues with at the beginning of the year. I've settled into an eight-step approach for my goal kicks, and I worked on perfecting it so that when I do take a mark that's within my range, I have more confidence in my approach.
Oh, and I iced my thigh over the weekend and It's okay now. ^_^

Re: What did you do today to get better?
Building the garden is easy, it is the prep, moving the dirt, etc. coupled with the long ride that made it noteworthy. Also, I used 50 pound bricks and the garden was on my roof, so I had to carry them like worlds strongest man up there. Only used 1 arm and 1 leg. And man once I add some nice mulch things will be sweet.
Last night I road 9 miles on my mtn bike in about 30 minutes, average speed around 18 miles an hour. Got home and did 80 situps and 50 push-ups (elbow still a bit sore from the Balt match).
Nice work Brian - sprinting back and forth while working on your skills is a good way to go.
Oh, and I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance.

Re: What did you do today to get better?
Ran 1 8min mile to warm up, then did a full body circuit workout. 2 sets each for biceps, triceps, chest, shoulder, legs back and abs. for each set i did used fairly light weights and and did reps for about 45-60 seconds or until failure.

OK I admit I did somewhat spuriously leave the word "brick" out of "flower garden". Call it poetic license.

Re: What did you do today to get better?
I wanted to focus on my stamina today, so I did what I call my "tournament regimen" on the treadmill:
5 minute warm up on 3.5
20 minute first half on 4.3
5 minute "halftime" on 3.5
15 minute second half on 4.8
5 minute cool down on 3.5 -> 3.0
All told, I did 3.4 miles in 50 minutes. When I go back to the Y on Saturday, I'm going to go back to a straight 25 minute run and do the circuit.
Tell you what... I'm not as fit as you guys are, but I've noticed a difference with my stamina from last season. I'm glad that I've stuck with the gym thing (somewhat) and that I went running with you guys before the season.

Re: What did you do today to get better?
got through "CArdio X" video of P90X, with quite a few hits of the pause button - pretty hard and that's supposed to be the easiest one.
I'll plan on doing that maybe 2X/week for a week or 2 then add another like plyometrics.
I really feel the core section, and the warrior pose is killer. I think it will be especially good for things like picking up the ball on the run, or pushing into a run in any direction from low down or a pack, which I find pretty hard now and wonder when various muscles are going to twang.

Re: What did you do today to get better?
did cardioX for 2nd time today - slightly less painful I think.
then a session kicking a ball against a big brick wall (local schoolyard), allows practice in low hard kicks and then picking up the rebounding fast-moving ball, and the occasional marks when it bounces back in the air.
Then some kicking practice at trees in the park.

Re: What did you do today to get better?
Ran 3.5 miles yesterday at an 8.5 mm pace. Brought dirt from back yard project down to practice ground to fill in some holes . . .
Have a good wek.
