Boston Weekend
Hey guys,
I wanted to drop a note to say good job this weekend. We lost (12.2.74 to __.__. 139), and it was disappointing to not come out on top. Three things from my perspective:
One - we are clearly trending the right direction. Since our NC loss at home our football has been a great thing to be a part of - wins or losses I think we have found a little bit of our old form in a new way.
The second, the match in Boston was a great road effort. We traveled well and played hard for the entire match. We honored the umpire for his hard work (even though it was frustrating) and well represented Hawks football.
Thirdly, since I was injured for most of last season I did not get to travel with the club. I forgot how great it is to get out of town with the club, share the battlefield and spend a night on the town (almost start another battle). Our club continues to be a great group on and off of the ground.
It was a good weekend and I am pumped for Nationals. Anyone on the fence about the trip - it will be worth your time and $ investment. If $ is the only issue separating your participation for nationals please talk to Jon, Dan or one of the committee members - we will do our best to help out when possible. Also, bring friends to the GP party - more friends = more $ = more club $ towards to costs at Nationals.
Good job to Pat and Mike D for handling the logistics, well done to Jon and Dan for preparing us to play and congrats to the award winners on the day - well earned particularly for Dan G, who may have worked harder in the pub than on the ground.
We have three more training sessions until we lose footy for a few months. Get out for a run and be at practice.
Cheers,
Kav

Re: Boston Weekend
It was a tough loss, but I think we showed a lot of heart and determination that will serve us well in nationals. The Boston game proved that mental toughness is as important, if not more so, than physical toughness. Towards the end of the game, despite being tired and behind on the scoreboard, we kept running and fighting for every ball. They may have been the fitter team, but we definitely put more work in.
If we take that intensity to nationals, I won't be surprised to see us playing in the final on Sunday. Both the Boston game, and the Baltimore-Washington tournament posed many of the same challenges we will probably see at nationals - poor weather, uneven ground, inconsistent umpires, not to mention the long trip to get there. We didn't let any of those factors prevent us from playing the kind of footy we are capable of.

Re: Boston Weekend
Ryan.......i couldnt have said it better myself. The things i missed most about being away from the club for so long, is the nights out with the boys, traveling for games and playing hard footy on the field. The thing about this club that is different from the last real team i played on in 2002 is that this team is hungry. We want to win every contest, every game. Sure the 2002 club was good, yes we won nationals, but this 2009 team is Better! More skilled, more determination, more aggressive. In all the years i have been associated with this club, i have never seen more of a desire to win than i do this year. The way we played against New York, Balt-Wash and Boston says a lot about this club. I don't know about the rest of you, but i know we are going to come home with that Cup this year. I feel it. i see it in our eyes, in the way we play, in the way we practice. We have to make sure we show up for training every week here on out, rain, wind, cold, hot....we have to maintain our focus. Do Not lose sight of the prize. put the extra work in and you will be rewarded.
CARN THE HAWKS!!!!!!

Re: Boston Weekend
Boys, I too had a great time this weekend, both on the field and off of it.
Though I've not been with the club as long as Greg and Ryan have, I too missed the feeling of driving several hours for a match, playing, and then hanging out with my mates afterwards. It's amazing to me how much we have gelled as a unit, and that's a tribute to everyone -- rookies, vets, coaches, board... everyone.
And believe me, guys, we're turning heads. Everyone has been mentioning how good we've shown ourselves to be the last two weeks. Wherever we get seeded, we have to believe that we're the favorites.
And that's a fact, Jack.
ETA -- Ryan, the final score was Boston 20.19 (139) to Philadelphia 12.2 (74).
