Prices in the Thrift stores

I just came back from The Salvation Army Thrift store and they are getting ridiculous with their pricing. I was able to find 10 books that I like but I didn't notice what the price was on any of them. Finally when I got to the cashier and asked she said they have new pricing on books now. They used to charge 50cents for paperbacks and $1 and up for hardbacks. Now the price is 80% of the listed price on the book! What? That is a huge jump in pricing and it ticks me off, even though it's still a savings from having to buy a book new, some of the books are pretty old.

I guess I will just have to start going to more yard sales for my books, that's where I get the best buys anyway.

I know what you mean Val. The last time we stopped in at the Good Will store Kenny was looking for blue jeans and for $3 more he could buy a new pair at wal-mart!

I still manage to find to really good deals at thrift stores, you just have to look a little harder than before. I don't know if there is anything to this or not, but from what I've found it depends on what part of town the store is in what the prices are. hhhhmmmmm..........

Yes mousie, so true! We have a new St Vincent dePaul in our little town (in the sticks) and the prices are really low ($1.50 for ANY top, $1.75 for ANY pants, etc) but when I go to the St Vincents near my mom's (she lives near the city) the prices are out of line ($7.99 for a top for example). You would think they would have the same pricing forumulas in all the stores with the same name. I am getting a lot of good deals though in the new store near me! They have great book prices too and lots of them. I think people are more willing to donate to them, as opposed to the Salvation Army store, because they see that they are keeping their prices lower for people. I'm so happy that store opened! I love Thrift shopping!

Walmart is good

 emoticon

We have a salvation army here, way on the other side of town..They seem quite spendy to me, but when I lived in the cities, they had so differant many thift shops, one could be convinced you were truely in heaven... emoticon

In a small town, deals are hard to come by...
