the deliberately inflated cost of medical related equipment

I looked into buying a walker with wheels for my mother, and the cost was $416.00 !!! The damn thing doesn't incorporate anymore design or parts than a baby stroller, yet it cost 4 to 6 times more!

Why?
Because, I was informed, the government will reimburse us for 75% of its cost.

What excuse is that for overcharging people??? That just overburdens the entire health care system because you know that almost EVERY medical/manufacturer will be doing the same thing. Ripping off the tax payers!

No wonder we can't afford to hire enough nurses or technicians, let alone buy enough needed equipment like CAT scan machines, etc. Way too much of the health care budget is being whittled away by all these rip off artists who charge astronomical amounts for products that were cheaply made!!!

And our moronic government lets them do it.

Boy you got that right! Same thing goes for anything in the medical area including Rx drugs.

Check out this discount healthcare catalog online Dr. Leonards's

They have great prices and a variety of medical items you might be interested in.

Also, go to places like St Vincent DePauls or second had thrift stores. There are soooo many of those things for sale in there for a few bucks. Good luck!

I thought about this all night last night. I have been thinking for a long time about starting up a business again but coming up with product to sell - that was another story. Don't you think it would be a great business to have a consignment type store selling durable medical equipment? What do people do with all the medical things they have bought when they don't need them anymore or the patient dies? This would give them a way to make money back and also for those without insurance to buy the equipment at a deep discount.

It's only passing through my mind right now so I don't know the legal aspects of this. I just thought it would be a really good idea. There may be a lot of them out there already, though I haven't heard about them.

Re: the deliberately inflated cost of medical related equipment

From kind of personal experience within my immediate family......

My father was on Medicaid. They paid for everything. So, a low income person would be getting it free from Medicaid. HOWEVER, my Dad's wife cannot get anyone to come get all the stuff that my Dad used. It is barely used!!!!

So, Val, I don't know the legality but it does sound like a good idea. People who need things temporary or like Dad for comfort in their last days.

Idea was shot down by two of my closest friends so I guess it was just a pie in the sky. Oh well, I'll think of something else someday.

I think its a good idea, Val. How did your friends shoot it down? I'd be interested to hear why it wouldn't work.
