The End To "don't ask, don't tell."

and a openly gay military will exist by the end of 2009.

Why do I believe that?

"Evidence shows that allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly is unlikely to pose any significant risk to morale, good order, discipline or cohesion,"

Cultural attitudes are changing and long over do. Even the religious fanatics who would oppose such a move should remember the words of their master "Old Things Shall Be Made New".

Let's take a look at those who support do away with "Don't Tell'.

Today, Americans have become more supportive of allowing openly gay men and women to serve in the armed forces. Support from Republicans has doubled over the past 15 years, from 32 to 64 percent. More than eight in 10 Democrats and more than three-quarters of independents now support the idea, as did nearly two-thirds of self-described conservatives.

Fifty-seven percent of white evangelical Protestants now support allowing openly gay service members in the military, compared with 82 percent of white Catholics and 80 percent of those with no declared religious affiliation. Three-quarters of both married and single people support the idea, both significantly higher than in 1993.

Army Lt. Gen. Robert Gard, who supports Barack Obama, and Marine Corps Gen. Hugh Aitken, who backed Clinton in 1996.

Brigadier General Hugh Aitken, USMC (Ret.), has called publicly for an end to the gay ban. "I believe this should have been done much earlier".

Thousands and thousands of gay veterans.

Seventy five per-cent of the Military.

AND THEN THIS:

http://www.palmcenter.org/press/dadt/releases/new_report_by_senior_military_leaders_urges_end_to_gay_ban

SANTA BARBARA, CA, July 7, 2008 - A new study released today by a team of retired senior flag and general officers from the U.S. military has concluded that the ban on openly gay service members is counterproductive and should end, the Associated Press is reporting today. The nonpartisan study group has a combined century and a half of military service from all four branches of the military, and it marks the first time a Marine Corps general has ever called publicly for an end to the gay ban. "I believe this should have been done much earlier," said Brigadier General Hugh Aitken, USMC (Ret.), one of the authors of the report.

Unless something unthinkable happens between now and January 20th, 2009. Barack Obama will be sworn in as President of The United States. Within weeks of his inauguration, a gay task force from several states will be knocking on his door. One of the reasons we will be there is the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell".

----------------------------
When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

Dr. King

a long time ago, I spoke to a friend in ROTC about the issue...he said that he wouldn't want to fight alongside some gay guy on the battlefield.

that never made any sense to me...a gay person can operate a gun like anyone else, and will have your back like any other soldier.

plus there's the idea that many gay folks don't have spouses and young children to leave behind at home while they risk life and limb for the country...emoticon

Men like women and want sex with them....and yet, they work and fight alongside one another in our wars now... what? They never have thoughts? What has what happens in someone's bed got to do with fighting alongside one another in a war? I feel sure most can do both well.emoticon

not entirely accurate at all. For example, I once saw a cat, cowering behind a full trash can because a pitbull was trying to eat him. Then, suddenly the cat went on the offensive and became extremely aggressive. The pitbull drew back his bloody shout after a few minutes and took off. The cat just stolled on down the road as if nothing had ever happened.

Paw I was in the navy four years and my companion was in the Marines for four years and is now a mean ass cop for the SFPD. Did we have sex during our military time, of course. He never revealed his lifestyle but hell I never didn't tell if they ask.

I was in France and when that carrier let the crew free the gay bars were full of fleet sailors and a few Marines. I must really laugh at all this.
