Drilling in ANWAR

This is from the conservative US News and World Reports magazine:

But the U.S. Energy Information Administration, an independent statistical agency within the Department of Energy, concluded that new oil from ANWR would lower the world price of oil by no more than $1.44 per barrel—and possibly have as little effect as 41 cents per barrel—and would have its largest impact nearly 20 years from now if Congress voted to open the refuge today. EIA produced the analysis in response to a request by Republican Sen. Ted Stevens of Alaska, who noted that the last time the agency had taken a look at the economics of ANWR production was in 2000, when oil was $22.04 a barrel.

We can find a cause NOT to do something if we look hard enough. How does this person who wrote this article KNOW exactly what the results would be of opening this source to the country? They estimate these numbers based on "somebody's guess, or last years costs." Does that necessarily mean he is correct and infallible on this issue.

I think we all are aware that the world uses about 2 million barrels PER DAY less than what they are bringing to the market. That is what is causing the problems we face at the pump today. Seems to me to be the logical choice would be to BRING MORE OIL INTO THE MARKET. ... iF YOU TRULY WISH THE PRICE TO FALL.

You guys who don't wish to dig in AWNAR...off-shore can always find a reason to support your thesis. As we who support drilling in ANWAR, off-shore or even in MY BACKYARD can find just as many reasons to bring more to the market even if it represents a meager amount.

Have you SEEN ANWAR?? It's a desolate wasteland where a few caribou migrate through. I'm sorry, but F those retarded caribou if it costs a million Americans their homes and livlihoods. Come on, people. Where are your friggin priorities. I'll go up there and snipe every one of those caribou off for you if it will help expedite this process so I can afford to feed my family.

that's the whole point....we could dig up all of ANWR, use up all the offshore drilling, and it would take about 10 years to show up at the pump, and it would lower the cost of gasoline about 3 cents per gallon. and, without a doubt, we would have to entice the oil companies to go dig up what is left of ANWR and foul the waters offshore with huge tax incentives to get them to do this work, and then they would sell it back to us for a huge profit...basically, this is just another boondoggle plan to pay off big oil companies at the expense of the taxpayer.

Duh, this is a no brainer. Reduce demand. Prices will drop. Develop vehicles that USE LESS FUEL. This was done as early as the 1980s.

individuals can reduce their costs by adjusting, but the nation, and the world, is stuck with high oil prices until an alternative fuel for cars is developed. if, and only then, that happens, then oil prices will plummet...i believe the big oil companies know their time is somewhat numbered and they want to make as much money in the last decade or so they have left as possible....their will still be a big demand for oil, for plastics and energy and other uses, but once cars run on something else, the gravy train is pretty much over for the oil companies.

Let's drill and drill and drill, and keep ourselves dependent on oil. The middle east would just LOVE that!
