The Enron Loophole

Never heard of it before, but, apparently, it benefitted Enron.

Benefitted it right into bankruptcy.

Dunno about you, but that benefit doesn't seem all too beneficial...

But, anyway, Obama's gonna do something about it.

Essentially, he wants to make it where US energy futures are traded only on regulated exchanges.

Well, okey dokey.

And, like, what'll this do?

Get speculators to bypass regulated exchanges?

Get speculators to bypass US energy futures?

I suspect that US energy futures really don't make up all that much of the market.

If they did, we wouldn't be so smitten with foreign oil.

Sounds like Obama's gonna do an awful lot to acheive very little.

Must be all that experience he has...

So tell, me, Einstein, what is McCain doing to solve the problem (with all the "experience" he has)?

Enron made a huge sum of dough before it collapsed due to mismanagment and fraudulent accounting practices....sure, trying to manipulate energy futures is risky business, and Enron got greedy and may have been burned when somethings didn't turn out the way they thought, but that just led to lots of employee investors getting rooked out of their pensions while the top brass, who made the major mistakes, got the golden parachutes...either way, why do you want these loopholes to remain? if they lead to investors getting soaked, or if it leads to energy companies manipulating the energy market to artificially create demand, it still is a bad thing...methinks thou doth protest too much...especially where obama is concerned and keep trying to find fault where there is hardly any.

Then, this loophole didn't do them much good, did it.

But, at any rate, the LOOPHOLE is sidebar, at best.

Did you bother to read the rest of the post?

it appears as though there is a loophole for energy speculators, right? why not close it? you tell me what good does it do....it is like the gun show loophole, it needs to be closed and closed tighter than than the information on who showed up and who benefitted most by Cheney's secret energy meetings taking place on taxpayer time and at taxpayer expense but Cheney insists we the people have no business knowing.

Yep CK unfortunately the challanged will feel good by this . Any thinking person knows that pretty much everything is speculation , real estate , plantind crops , starting a buggywhip factory etc . And yes if the energy speculators are demonixed like " big" business they will just move . Las Vegas will welcome them .

Ah, jimbo, I don't think it will do ANY good.

Why are you asking me to tell you what good it will do?

I think that we should always support big business even if they rape the consumer. Oh yeah, and tax cuts for the rich!
