Nineteen Minutes
An excellent book by Jodi Picoult. I like her, her books are sort of hit and miss, but she tackles really interesting subjects, and does really well at portraying all sides of the story. This particular book revolves around a school shooting, and while it is easy to dismiss shooters as crazy loners or something, she delivers his side without ever making you feel like she is condoning his actions. It was difficult for me to read as a parent because this kid had a normal life, nice parents, etc. I kept thinking, what if that is my son? You can't pinpoint what anybody did wrong, his parents seemed perfectly nice and normal, not neglectful or smothering or anything like that. So how did this kid turn into a killer? Made me think too much. But very good, definitely worth reading. If you like her, you should also check out My Sister's Keeper and Salem Falls (you might have to suspend disbelief a little bit for parts of that one, they deal with Wiccans, but otherwise it's really good. Nerve wracking).
