I Disagree With Obama Here NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- On the first day of what is to be a two-week economic tour around the country, Barack Obama said Monday that lawmakers should inject another $50 billion immediately into the sluggish U.S. economy.
The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee cited the largest monthly increase in the unemployment rate in over 20 years, and record highs in oil prices, food prices and foreclosures.
"Such relief can't wait until the next president takes office. ... That's why I've called for another round of fiscal stimulus, an immediate $50 billion to help those who've been hit hardest by this economic downturn," Obama told a crowd in Raleigh, N.C.
He said that he supports the expansion and extension of unemployment benefits, as well as a second round of tax rebate checks
Ok, I agree with the unemployment benefits during this crunch time, but the rebate checks are just bandaid solutions. How is this really going to make any impact when the nation is already in debt? We'll have to pay for these $50 billion checks somehow. If we weren't in this war I could see the justification for this expense, but the war has made any expense like this unwise, in my opinoin.
… i say couple this with an immediate 18 cent reduction in federal gas taxes, to be made up by tax increases on the big oil companies....wait a minute- is Obama tearing a page out of the Clinton smeary, dirty tacticy, pandering playbook! say it ain't so..........

Why, hello, Mr. Inflation.
Come to turn Obama into another Carter?
--- I am wracked with such hearty guffaws that in addition to rolling to and fro on the floor, my posterior has separated itself from my body.
… I don't see any relation between Obama and Carter, except that they both seem to be a rare breed of honorable and dignfied politiicans. I just don't agrree with this Hillaryesque proposal he's making. I'm disappointed.
… why don't we give it the old republican try and just give the rich a few more capital gains tax cuts and a few more percentage points off the highest marginal taxes? it's worked so well for reagan and bush in the past....
