Vast wasteland
You bring yourself to the brink of an enormous desert of no feature.You summon the courage to enter the wasteland and you do so.
As you wander aimlessly through the desert you come upon a sandstone castle.The entrance of the castle is locked tight.There is the carving of a scorpion around the lock to the door.You exit the desert for there is nothing of intrest that is accesable...

You wander aimlessly through the desert looking for water. You come upon an oasis. You've seen many of these so walk into it. Water you cry realizing this is REAL.

As I enter the desert I see two sets of footprints, one heading into the desert, the other leaving. They look like they were made by the same person. Even though he or she left the desert, I follow the prints to find out where they lead.
Here and there the footprints were obliterated by desert winds, but as I reach the crest of each hill, or find a rock to climb on, I can always find where they continue.
Eventually they lead me to a sandstone castle. I try the door, suspecting that I will find it locked. It is! I smile, knowing that this is why I had to bring the gold key from the bog!
I put the key in the lock and turn it -- remembering, at the last moment, to call a protection spell to mind just in case ....

The lock clinks, and you hear a vast whiring noise. The great door opens, inside the torchlit halls you see a long wearisome passageway. at the end of the passageway, there is an enormous door with a scorpion engraving. the scorpion's eyes are missing...
two enormous flights of stairs go up both doorsides.

I pause for a moment, wondering which staircase I should choose, or is it better to try the door? I ponder the fate of the scorpion's missing eyes. What sat in those empty sockets? Jewels? Gold orbs? Precious stones of some kind.. What happened to them?
As I creep silently along the long passageway I feel a chill go down my spine. It feels like a trap, but what can I do? Turn around and run home? Hide like a little mouse, forget the magic spells I have been learning, and take the scraps life throws onto the ground for me?
No!
I touch the weapons I carry and raise my chin higher. I will try the door.
