Starting Line Up for Newtown

It is going to be a really hard job picking an 11 for the opener but so far I reckon only these are probably guaranteed their places.

Kendall
Conno
George
Strong
Stones
Reedy
Neil Roberts
Craig Jones

The rest are up for grabs in my opinion. Maybe Kelly alongside Stones in the middle.

Will Reed play left side or partner Roberts up front???

Going to be some tough choices and I can see 4 or 5 leaving over the next month or so.

don't agree stones should be an automatic choice jon. squad definitely needs trimming and agree, probably lose 4 or 5 (anyone's guess who goes though). paolo bit in the same mould as white, but hope we give him a further chance in the remaining friendlies. i think roberts is going to be a revelation in the wpl and rhyl are going to absolutely batter some of the league's lesser lights.

Stones was well out of position last night WOB to be fair, he is a far better player in midfield.

fair comment jon.

competition for places is never a bad thing, but i can see a couple of players not happy to sit on the bench. a few weeks ago i thought jiws and sharpy would be leading the line, now it's entirely plausible they could both be on the way. funny game in it.

Willo to protect back 3 and use wide men; Roberts to set things up; Reed and Williams a bit similar, start with one on the bench.

Subs: Reed/Williams-Stones+whoever's still around of Gareth or Carl Owen or Jiws.

Would still leave 4/5 not even on the bench. Personally, I can't see any problem (other than wage bill !) of getting 4 of the squad each week to play for the reserves so as to instill the idea that they must fight for a place in the squad. Few less places for young reserves but those who do play will benefit from playing with established first-team members in the reserves. Raise the issue of promotion for the reserves at the start of the season
