Matty Holt

Now left the Club according to the main site. He will need regular games and has moved on. Best wishes Holty.

Liked Holty a lot but never was given a real run and was very unlucky not to start over in Ireland

Not sure he had a lot too show!

Shame about Holty. Don't know why the club didn't look to loan him out to another WPL club for a season, give him good experience and he could come back next season, the same might be the best option with Sharpy.
They both need game time which is something they seem unlikely to get given the players currently in the squad

Re: Matty Holt

Same old argument really. I'm not trying to argue that Holty is better than the other CBs, just that in the big picture, it re-inforces the idea that we shall always buy 30somethings rather than develop local talent. If one thirtysomething lets you down big-time, you bring another one in. Best of luck Holty.

From a playing side of things tho, you couldn't argue that Holty offered anything not well covered by Horan, Strong and O'Neill. The situation is completely different with Sharp. Altho we have 5 other strikers, we have no other who will strongly chase all the lost causes Hunt-style and harrass defenders and create chances. Now that Hunt has gone, his time has arrived and it would be stupid from a footballing point of view - besides the fact of nurturing those who've come up thro the reserves - to lose him. Together with Neil Roberts, Sharpy is the striker with a determined enough physical presence not to get knocked off the ball but force his way thro - as he did last night (altho showed that he doesn't yet have Hunt's finishing ability.) If, as reported by some, Jiws moves on, and if Neil Roberts reverts to setting things up just behind the front two, then it's two out of Reed, Williams and Sharpy. There's definitely a place for him as he offers a different option.

Totally agree Jon, looked like he was one of the few who would come up from the reserves into the first team. Good luck Holty

Re: Matty Holt

I'd like to see Sharpy here, but he needs to show the form of 2 seasons ago and more if he's going to get in the side and I just can't see him getting the game time he needs.

You can't get away from the fact that Williams, Roberts and Reed all have much stronger CV's and are likely to be the 3 preferred options as strikers, with Owen and Jiws also in the mix.

It's tough but if we want to win the league we can't afford sentiment to be a part of team selection
