Substitutes
Will we name 5 on the bench this season? i believe the rules state we must name 2 home grown/youth products or under 21s, ideal opportunity for Tom Roberts/Adam France/ Joe Aherne/ Mikey Roose to gain valuable experience whilst ensuring we have the full compliment available

Re: Substitutes
That sounds fine in theory but as our reserves usually play the same day it'll mean that you take a good young player out of the reserves to sit on the bench in South Wales all day with virtually no chance of getting on

Re: Substitutes
maybe the only time we can realistically do it is for midweek games.

Re: Substitutes
Out of 49 1st team games last season, a reserve fixture directly clashed on only 18 occasions. If that comparison is the same for the coming season reserve team players may be available for two thirds of 1st team games. As for medicals, unsure whether that is a Euro or WPL requirement

Re: Substitutes
Think I'd rather they took a young lad on 1st team away trips to polish the bench than Gary Powell, Craig. Even if the young players only get a few minutes on the pitch, we'd learn more about their potential than by using Gary as sub and leaving any possible future talent in the reserves.

Re: Substitutes
Totally agree DJ, no disrespect to the legend that is Gary Powell, with EPL moving to seven subs this season, we need to get used to having a 16 man match day squad in readiness for the WPL having 7 subs in the future

Re: Substitutes
..and we'll have plenty left unused each week of the first-team squad to fill their places in the reserves. Get the players used to fighting for their places. If Jiws, Gareth Owen or anyone (examples only - no reason to suspect them personally) don't want to turn out for the reserves , let them go.

Re: Substitutes
You miss my point DJ.
When Gary Powell was sub we only had 3 subs. Whats being suggested is that we take 2 of the reserves as extra subs. If the subs bench reads, O'Neil, Willo & Sharpy, not very likely that the other 2 are going to get on the pitch.
If it was me I wouldn't want to go to Haverford West knowing I had virtually no chance of getting on, when I could be playing a game back at home

Re: Substitutes
Damn, missed again!! What puzzled me though, Craig, is WHY we only had three subs for those games when Gary P was on the bench. We should be able to rustle up enough subs to fill our quota for all away games.
