Rhyl relegated
Seems the rumours were true.
Hopefully a full statement will be forthcoming from the club

Re: Rhyl relegated
Gutted. The information being put out was that it was only an "administrative" failing i.e. bringing the end-of-year in line with the FAW. This was obviously not the case, and I think that an explanation, above and beyond the bland "we will rebuild" is owed to the many fans who have travelled the length and breadth of Wales (and Europe) supporting them over the last few years (and I'm not including me in that, I mean the fans who have given of their time and money).
This is not the time to apportion blame. I appreciate that there are many unsung heroes who have helped over the years, who haven't got the publicity or thanks they deserve, and they must be gutted too. However, without knowing what exactly happened, it will be difficult to avoid it happening again.
Gutted, gutted, gutted ............

Re: Rhyl relegated
It is a difficult situation because one realises that a certain amount of confidentiality is needed with financial matters, but fans are now owed an explanation. It shouldn't take long because those in charge obviously know what the situation is and there is no confidentiality left now.
There doesn't seem to be much point in blaming the FA this time as all would agree that it is good to raise standards in all aspects - including insisting on sound finance. Otherwise, clubs can buy unfair short-term advantage. We haven't gone bust like Barry or Portsmouth, just the next worst thing. There is a prima facie case for the club officials to answer and explain.

Re: Rhyl relegated
and here's the statement
"Rhyl FC are to step back from the Welsh Premier League after the FAW rejected the licence application.
Financially, the club has had a very difficult second half to the season.
The manager, the players and all non-playing staff have been magnificent throughout this difficult period.
We have taken steps to rationalise the operations and we are actively seeking new sponsors.
We had hoped to remain at the top of Welsh football whilst working through the residual financial issues.
Now we will continue to rebuild the clubs finances and get back to the WPL as soon as possible."
Now that doesn't really tell us much. Back in January we were hoping for new sponsors. Why should we succeed now when we didn't then ? Why have a club (due respect, fair play to them) like Prestatyn received sponsors and support and we haven't ? Was Greg kept in the dark or was his interview misleading ? Basically, how exactly did we get into this situation - so that it is not repeated ?
It's serious. Currently we are more likely to emulate Caernarfon and drop into the Alliance for 2011/2 than get into the WPL - given all the solidly financed clubs which will be trying to get promotion from the CA. Being in the CA means losing the players, sponsorship being less attractive, less fans and income,no support for an Academy, no TV coverage, a downward spiral. In fact everything which one said would happen if we were to start at the bottom of the English pyramid - without any of the perceived advantages i.e. worst of all worlds. So agree that we need more than a bland statement. Maybe the officers are on the way back from the Appeals Committee. Surely they too are gutted. But within a couple of days we should get a full explanation. Loyalty of fans is one of the few assets left and so should not be prejudiced.
Hopefully some of the regular contributors will come back on to the forum now. I've got a feeling that maybe some more or less knew and were too gutted to post comments.
Rebuilding starts next week. Now that we know the situation -
* Is Greg staying ?
* What''s the playing budget ?
* Can any of the current players be accommodated within it ?
etc

Re: Rhyl relegated
The Welsh Premier and the Welsh FA have sh*t on Rhyl time and after time. Its time now for us to do what we can and get into the English System!

Re: Rhyl relegated
As ioio says, the club statement is totally inadequate, so bland that it could have been written by one of the hacks at the Welsh Premier League or the FAW.
The fans should be told the full facts now.

Re: Rhyl relegated
Mike, it's a red herring in this case. Financial mismanagement happens in any pyramid. No-one in the Welsh or English FA told Rhyl to spend those wages on Neil Roberts. As it happened, it was with the (successful) intention of winning the WPL and going into the Champions League. However, it could have been done in an attempt to reach the Conference in the English pyramid. Making the FA a scapegoat does seem to avoiud the real problem which is presumably internal. Unless that is sorted, then it doesn't matter if we're in the Faroe Islands pyramid - we still wouldn't succeed. So we need to get the club sorted - other arguments are for other days.
Any chance of us all looking on the bright side ? We had an unprecented 6 or 7 years of success, brilliant experiences, an upgraded stadium, attendances of 2000+ on numerous occasions, got the whole place buzzing...and we haven't gone bust. Weigh it all up, and I reckon we've still got a lot to thank PP and others for - as long as there is a quick plan for rebuilding.
Difficult decisions to be taken however e.g. there would be a quick four or five grand to be made by offering BV as a cheaper option than Wrexham to Bangor for Europe..and just grit our teeth and stay away, or even provide the stewards to save the club money.

Re: Rhyl relegated
The statement says very little
Its time we heard what has happened and what the financial situation is and why we have been kick out.
I have supported Rhyl for years and years and watched us in the lower league before and I will continue to do so whatever league we play in.
But as I fan I want to know why this has happened and put rumours to bed once and for all.
I thought we were debt free so what is the reason for this?
The league will be a poorer place without Rhyl, the crowds were already dwindling and us not being in there wont help.
Time to ship out of this crap set up and back to England.

Re: Rhyl relegated
If we have to take stock and start again, then that could be no bad thing. A couple of thoughts though:
No matter what the Welsh system has done or could do for us, I fear that it is going to self-destruct the way things are going.
If there is a choice, then, I would opt for trying to get back into the English pyramid - may as well be in the North West Counties (or whatever it's called nowadays) as the CA.
Who's left at the club - who owns it, who are directors, who has a financial interest, will Greg want/be invited to stay on (doubtful on the last point) etc. More information is needed ............

Re: Rhyl relegated
Disgraceful state of affairs. Rhyl's reserves were playing Prestatyn about a decade ago, now they are playing a league above Rhyl's first team.
It doesn't matter which league Rhyl join if the management is incompetent.
