Great Rogers find!
I was recently contacted by a gentleman that was interested in selling off "a couple of old Rogers sets." It turns out that Rogers endorsee Russ Irwin was his father, and had played several Broadway shows back in the 60's, including the opening run of Camelot. You can see Russ on page 10 of the 1964 Catalog. He hung out quite a bit at Henry Adler's in NYC, and bought all of his gear there.
The two sets I bought are a Cleveland 20-12-14(x16) w/ matching Powertone in Blue Sparkle, and a Cleveland 20-13-16 w/ matching Powertone in BDP. Russ was a very meticulous man, and kept excellent care of his drums. He only played Rogers for his entire career. On the bass drums, he had Henry Adler replace the T's with keyrods, both for more room in the pit and for more accurate tuning.
With the drums was a bag full of swivo hardware, and several old A and K Zildjians. He also had a 70's Fibes chrome over brass snare that he bought because Buddy had one. Lastly, I got Russ' original 1964 catalog that he ordered the drums from.
This stuff was NOT cheap, but I'll still be able to make some profit on it, which Russ' son understood. He was glad that I would be cleaning them, selling them to someone appreciative of his father and Rogers drums, and sharing the great Rogers history with fans.

MLVBS, this is great news. So glad that you got these and that they didn't go to a dumpster diver. Also pretty cool story. Did his son play also?

Re: Great Rogers find!
A lot of great stuff happened in NYC back in the day. I lived in Manhattan when Camelot premiered, but I was only 10 so I never got to go.
Very cool that his son took the time to find the right home for those drums...

Re: Great Rogers find!
Dan, you're right, so much great history here. Do you remember Camelot being on Broadway? I believe Julie Andrews and Richard Burton were in the first run.
Here's a pic from Russ' 1964 catalog. I found the price sheet inside the back cover, and it looks like he bought a ton of gear all at once from Henry Adler's shop. Or maybe he kept a tab everytime he stopped in. It's further proof that the individual drums were purchased separately and added together to make a kit in the actual store.

Re: Great Rogers find!
That's great you have the catalogue and his price sheet. I love to see documentation of finds like yours. I would have liked to have seen Henry Adler's store back in the day.
I have a late 20's L&L 4x15 from his shop. It still has his decal on it. (Click on the image to see full size.)

Yes, on Broadway with Burton and Andrews. My folks and my older sister got to see it, but not me...

Re: Great Rogers find!
Was lucky to see the Sound of Music on Broadway with Mary Martin (I was about 10 or so). Also Oliver! and Half a Sixpence. Missed Camelot, and didn't actually ever catch it until seeing the movie two years ago.
