Rogers Badges and approx. dates

I was asked to date Rogers badges for a friends web site and here is what I was able to gather. Still a little dizzy and would advise to read the following with coffee. Tough to give exact dates for a non exact factory! If the following needs a correction please do not hesitate to chime in. Enjoy! Peace, Gary

SMALL OVAL Joseph Rogers Jr.& Son-A Rogers
Product-Quality Guaranteed was used from 1938-1952/53
on tom toms.

Important to note that 1938 catalog didn't show the
draped rectangular badges on the rocket lug snare
drums. The different snares were called Union, Daisy
or Three Star but the badges were seen in the 1940
catalog on the new "R" lug drums in the picture. 1938
catalog also shows a round Gretsch looking badge on a
Three Star parade drum picture and a small
square(blurry so you can't see the writing) that looks
a lot like a Gretsch tag used.

Soo Brand was from 1938-1951. I think this one badge
didn't make it out of Farmingdale NJ. It was use on
their lower end single tension models.

Daisy Brand was from 1938-1952/53. This badge made it
to one rivet lug/pop sickle stick snare drum OH
Covington.

Three Star Brand was from 1938-1952/53. This badge
made it to two rivet lug/pop sickle stick snare drums
OH Covington.

No example of Daisy Brand or Three Star Brand were
found past a rivet lug snare drum at this time.

Union Brand was from 1938-1957E catalog (57E only two
snare drums Lexington and Monitor models).

Union Brand badge was used on all three 1953/54 coffin
bolt lug snare drums.

1955 and 57E snare page shows Monitor Model with the
Union badge.

*note* The 1957 catalog shows the same Lexington and
Monitor models with an eagle badge and a twist in the
Orchestra strainers arm.

Eagle badges from (54?)1955-1958 (all eagle badges)
but...eagle badges are found in the 1960 and 1962
catalogs as well. 1964 catalog shows eagle badges on
some marching drums too.

large reflector oval with leaning backwards script was
used on Classmate and Banner model snare drums from
1959-1960 but probably found/sold 1958-62

large pirate R script 1959-1960 but...1958 (59R
catalog) has the first odd script on the cover logo
design.

leaning backwards script 1959-60 but...1962 catalog
shows drums with some older odd scripts also.

regular OH script logo 1961-1968/69 First appeared in
the 1962 catalog and by the 1964 catalog was the only
script logo shown.

flatter script Fullerton CA 1969/70-1975

1975-some drums had both the last flatter script logo
and the new big R square badge on the same snare.

Note the jumbo sized logos on this WPM set on this 62r cataloge. Im not sure if this was done intentionally or not.

Rogersoholic, That's it! Trying to help David on that site get the badge page complete. That page will be updated soon. I know Tom made progress on the later big R badges. I have no clue on that era.

There were larger script logos I've seen used on bass drums and floor toms in the 2 odd script versions. I think the 62 catalog has some enlarged regular scripts on the cover but never saw one on a drum. Anyone?

Peace, Gary

Good stuff, Gary. I did not know that there were both "RD" and "D" Big R badges. I'm guessing that the RD version was on the earliest Big R drums. I'm theorizing that the no-SN badges were from drums made in the short time that the factory was in Monrovia.

Here is the no-SN badge along with an SN badge. Please let me know if you need better pictures:
