Seven Line/Five Line Change over Dating.
Theres a Dynasonic on ebay right now, belonged to the guys dad who is in his 80s. Dead Mint, with the original Rogers Box from the factory, date stamped May 25, 1967. Five Line Drum, 11, 818 serial. Seven Line shells phased out at 11000. or close to that. Ive never seen a five line shell in the high tens, Ive never seen a seven line shell in the low 11,000 range. The earliest fiver Ive seen was 11021.
The Fire was in February 1967. My wonder is this..... Was the factory fire just a coincidence or did that have a lot to do with the shell change from the seven lines to five lines on the Dynasonic. Can that be reasonably used as a time line for the Seven Line Five Line shift? Most of February was shot as far as production was concerned. Drums were being produced again in late February, and production picked up in March.. Is it reasonable to assume that by May, 800 Dynasonics would have been produced from the resumation of production after the fire?
Also if this is true..... Anyone holding a drum below 10700 was probably produced in 1966. Unless someone thinks between January and May, with the fire in between, Rogers pushed a thousand Dynasonics through the door.
This is not addressed in the book, nor have I seen anyone else address this question.
Ideas!?

Very interesting thoughts here! I've been checking around and haven't come up with any clues at all. Anyone else?

Re: Seven Line/Five Line Change over Dating.
I don't think the fire had anything to do with the change in the shell. The move to a different shell design was probably in the works for months before the fire, and would have required protypes to be sent back and forth from the fabrication facility to the production manager/engineer, i.e. Joe Thompson.
I suspect the shell was changed to make it more resistant to being dented from rough handling, and possibly to update it's look as well.
I still have my original 1967 catalog, and it has a copyright of 1967 on the back cover. The Dynasonic photos inside all show the 7-line shell. Since this catalog was probably at the printer in early 1967, that suggests the shell was still in production well into 1967, in my opinion. Also, this version also references CBS in the small print on the back cover, and since CBS took over in 1966 -they were probably the driving force behind the glossy new catalog for 1967.
I also have the later version of the '1967' catalog, the one with Buddy Rich removed from the back cover. This one has a copyright date of 1968 on the back cover, but the Dynasonic photos inside are the same. They probably felt it was not worth re-doing the photos of the Dyna to reflect the shell change, but I think that shell was gone by the beginning of 1968...
Also, always remember that the badges were in boxes on different assembly benches and were grabbed at random, so using their order to develop a strict timeline is very unreliable. And also, those badges were used on marching drums, including bass drums, so a LOT of them could get used in a short period of time...

Re: Seven Line/Five Line Change over Dating.
I agree that the fire had nothing to do with it and also agree that the switch over generally came sometime around 10,000/11,000. Kind of one of those vague points like when Rogers switched from b&b lug Powertones to bvtl Powertones.
