60's Mahogany Cleveland Comet w/Parade Drum
Hi all. I'm new here and had a question about a used Rogers Cleveland. I was checking out this auction on eBay: Rogers Cleveland Mahogany
I'm sooo far from an expert, but from what I've seen in the vintage catalogs, the mahogany finish wasn't offered in the Comet. Same with the 22" kick. I could be way off base though.
Any thoughts? What do you think the kit is worth? Thanks!

Re: 60's Mahogany Cleveland Comet w/Parade Drum
Welcome!
This set was from 62 or later with the Luxor snare and Tower tom. It would normally have a 20" bass drum but Rogers would take custom orders. The Mahogany veneer would have been available for this set.
As for value...it's hard to say. I've never seen this set on the market before and the market sets the value. I would love to have this set and would pay $500 + for it if I had the room.
Jack

Re: 60's Mahogany Cleveland Comet w/Parade Drum
I emailed the seller through another site and we worked out a deal - they arrived yesterday and I'm quite happy. My first full Rogers kit...
The 22" kick is single-tension and it really booms. Nice balance of attack and resonance - laying into it fills up the room but not in an obnoxious way (provided you disregard my playing, that is...)
The Luxor snare is in good shape all around - I've played a couple but never owned one. Looking forward to getting to know it -- definitely quieter than my dynasonic.
Rack tom looks a lot better than I thought - only minor snare rash on the back - and the important part - it sings.
The floor tom is a semi-converted parade drum. I'm thinking about getting the bottom bearing edges re-done to eliminate the snare bed and getting floor tom legs. Any recommendations on this kind of work? Lawton? Precision?
Obviously I'm preaching to the converted here - just a newbie gushing about his first Rogers set! Looking forward to learning a lot more. Thanks!
