drum set
I was just wondering if anyone can tell me how I can find out the age and value of my Rogers drum set. It's a gray pearl set with matching snare. It is a Powertone made in Cleveland and the number on the label is 8228. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
More info on the set.
Snare is Powertone from Cleveland #8228
Bass is a Holiday from Cleveland #48878 (20x14 D)
floor tom, Holiday, Cleveland #68538 (16x16)
sm. tom, Holiday, Cleveland #7241 (12x8D)
Chrome brackets Are pitted otherwise set is in very good condition, although needs new heads.

Re: drum set
Just some clarification:
I caught this guy's drums on craigslist a few minutes after he posted it. He was about to give away some nice drums, so I e-mailed him and advised him to get a price estimate here first.
From the picture I saw, he had a 4 piece kit in Black Diamond Pearl. 20/16/13 with 5x14 matching snare.(The 13" tom might be a 12", and the bass might be a 22", hard to tell for sure). The bass looked like it had 2 hex swivo mounts - tom and ride cymbal. I believe that means it might be a "Swingtime" model, but it might also be a "Headliner".
Anyway, I know he has something of value, much much more than what he was asking.
Drummertk - post a pic of each drum. Get the numbers from all the tags inside the drums. Post any pictures of cracked/torn covering. Describe any rust or cracked lugs
(Cleveland era drums have a tendency of cracked lugs).

Re: drum set
Wow, nice drums!
I think this is a "Headliner" model. Probably from 1965?
(Beavertail lugs are late Cleveland era, into the Dayton and Fullerton eras).
Someone with a dating guide book can look up those tag numbers and get an approximate year for you.
Yours is very similar to this kit currently on E-Bay
3 Piece Black Diamond Pearl
However, having that matching Powertone snare drum increases the value a lot. (Sold separately, the snare might fetch $400-500)
Your drums have some pitting on the chrome, which is natural for 40+ year old drums. I don't see any obvious problemswith the drum covering.
Important question though. Is the drum covering original, or was it redone? If original, I can easily see your complete kit selling for between $1500-1800.

Re: drum set
By the covering do you mean the black diamond pearl? If so, it is original.
