Have you seen this before?
Hello Experts~
I'm looking for a little help. I have a set of Rogers script, swivomatic, 12/13/16/22 in a yellow called Spanish Gold. My cataolgues show this as a color intro'd in 1976 but the swivos ended in 75. I had never seen this color before. Was it not popular? Can you tell me exactly what year this might be? Thanks to all.

Re: Have you seen this before?
The factory was known to use up old parts before going to the new. Possibly your set was transitional: they had enough swivos to build a set of drums, but the old wrap colors were gone. So they put the swivos on your gold set.
If this is fact, you have a rare set of drums.
the other possibility is that a previous owner rewrapped the drums in Spanish Gold. Or, someone discarded the Memriloc hardware for swivo hardware (unlikely).
The experts will weigh in on this, I'm sure. Pictures are a must. We need to see the insides.
Get 'em posted, NoYesL! This is an interesting find. Welcome to the forum!

Re: Have you seen this before?
Thanks tommykat1.
This is definitely the original wrap, everything matches up. Your hunch on it being transitional makes sense since the inside tag would lean towards 74-75...numbers without letters and not underlined. (I hope that makes sense.) I'll get pics as soon as I finish cleaning them. Looks like they had been in storage over 10 years. If someone had switched out hardware there would be some mismatched/extra holes, right??

Yes. And hazing and crazing and probably a darker shade where the Memriloc hardware was. As mentioned, this is the unlikely scenario.
Post those pics!

Re: Have you seen this before?
Looks like a Fullerton 9/72 label which covered a number of years (hard to tell with blurry photo). I have seen this finish with swivo hardware before. Tommy may well be right in his assessment but I'm not sure this finish didn't come out earlier.

Re: Have you seen this before?
Spanish gold first appeared in the '76/'77 catalog. The debut of Memriloc/Big R badges. I have a price sheet to go with this catalog: effective 11/8/1975.
Drums with the 9/72 tags on them were made into 1975.
That kit is rare or possibly a one-off of a Swivo kit made with one of the new Memriloc finishes. I'm sure Swivo kits were still being made when the new colors were being chosen and the literature for the new model-year was being created. Might have been a special request by a dealer, or maybe someone within the plant wanted to mix the 2 eras.
Anyway, great kit, really unusual. That color is scarce on a Big R kit, and truly unique on a Swivo kit.
Wish I had it...
